The Matthew of Bristol Out of Water at Underfall Yard
Have you seen the historic ship out of water yet?
The Matthew of Bristol has temporarily left its home on Princes Wharf, sailing down the Harbour to Underfall Yard for its annual maintenance.
The ship is a reconstruction of the original Matthew that John Cabot sailed to Newfoundland in 1497.
Built between 1994 – 1996, it has been available for harbour trips and cruises since its 1997 maiden voyage to celebrate the 500th anniversary of Cabot’s Newfoundland journey.
It can currently be seen out of water at Brunel’s Underfall Yard, although not close up as the Yard is currently closed until 28 December 2025.
You can still see work taking place and it’s certainly a fascinating glimpse to see what the whole ship looks like.
