1655. England is under the Protectorate of Oliver Cromwell, but the scars of civil war remain. A remote village, desperate to curtail the spread of the plague, has cut itself off from its neighbours in a self-imposed isolation. As supplies dwindle and tensions fray, the community struggles to hold itself together. Until a stranger arrives at the village gates, begging to be let in.
