Beyond Face Presents We Are Here To Share at the Spielman Theatre Bristol
A showcase of brand-new work in the early stages of development, will be taking place at the Spielman Theatre in Bristol this week.
Beyond Face, is presenting a diverse range of work from Global Majority Artists based in Bristol and the South West.
The work encompasses a variety of styles, including writing, dance, comedy and spoken word.
Beyond Face is a Community Interest Company, which provides opportunities for artists of the Global Majority, living locally to be part of the theatre world. It can be a notoriously difficult world to break into, which is why the company reframes thinking around what constitutes ‘quality’ in theatre.
That doesn’t mean reducing the values of work that is created. Reframing ‘values’ actually challenges the traditional barriers and routes people take into the theatre world.
This allows participation and high quality work to be developed and created by actors that is not measured by age, level of training nor where in the country it’s produced. It’s an important direction for producing theatre in creating equity of access. This in turn brings more representative and higher quality work to theatre programmes.
As well as removing barriers for Global Majority Artists, the company also aims to create more arts and culture job opportunities locally, as well as ensure arts organisations are anti-racist and continue training and development in this area.
The showcase is on Saturday 10 December 2022 and runs at 2 hours, including an interval. It is recommended for audiences aged 14 years upwards.
The Spielman Theatre is based in Tobacco Factory Theatres in Southville.
