Dora the Explorer LIVE! Search fo the City of Lost Toys at the Bristol Hippodrome – Review

Nickeloden's Dora The Explorer Live! Search for the City of Lost Toys2

When Dora asks the youngsters in the audience which part of the show they loved the best, they all enthusiastically yell back. For the adults, it was probably the interval.

The Nickelodeon TV series of Dora the Explorer, has been brought to the stage featuring fully costumed actors, a blend of puzzles, songs and simple bilingual script.

The extremely simple plot and well timed acts, follows Dora and in the second Act Diego, as they embark on a journey to find a lost teddy bear.

They have to beat sneaky fox Swiper and with the help of youngsters in the audience maniacally waving cardboard stars, they successfully pass the test at the number pyramid.

The show is very much Indiana Jones for pre-schoolers and was incredibly popular with the three-year-old and six-year-old who watched the show as part of this review.

Swiper kept the eldest amused with his Wile E. Coyote disasters and the star lighting and bubbles enthralled the youngest.

The show is suitable for children aged 18 months upwards. The sound can be a little loud occasionally for those with sensory issues. But if you have a child who struggles to sit still, this is a good introduction to theatre etiquette. The style of show and relaxed atmosphere was similar to that experienced at Butlin’s Centre Point, which has run high production value Dora the Explorer shows in past seasons.

Of course, Dora gets her teddy bear back at the end and Swiper gets stuck in his own Swiper net so good does triumph over naughtiness.

The UK tour is running until 19 August 2013, with ticket prices starting from £14.

It’s a good shout as a treat for families during the summer holidays.
