Ave Maria! – Bristol Improve Theatre

Bristol-based Two Birds Theatre Company bring their comedy drama Ave Maria! to Bristol Improv Theatre this June.

The show delves into themes of faith and the struggle of choosing between who you are and what you believe.

‘Father’ Julian of the parish of Norwich spends her days making up Latin liturgy, flirting with members of the aristocracy, and above all maintaining her carefully crafted persona as a male priest in the year of our Lord 1296 AD.

When she agrees to perform an illicit marriage between Marius, the newly minted Duke of Norfolk, and his bride Adela (who Julian happens to be romancing), the arrival of Marius’ displeased and probing uncle Richard threatens her disguise.

Julian is forced to seek an authority which will make her invincible and accepts the newly opened role of bishop. But as rumours abound, nuns end up where they shouldn’t be, and faith collides with fealty, Julian is left to consider who she is – and what she believes.
