REVOLT! – The Wardrobe Theatre

REVOLT! is a double header of radical history and renegade ramblings from Pete the Temp & Doug Francisco

Two of Bristol’s most gloriously unorthodox performers join forces for an evening of radical history, psychedelic Romanticism, circus confessionals and backstage madness.

Poet, performer and storyteller Pete the Temp and legendary Bristol ringmaster, clown and circus impresario Doug Francisco journey from the revolutionary ferment of the 1790s to the seedy underbelly of modern cabaret.

ROMANTICS, MYSTICS & REVOLUTIONARIES

Pete the Temp

What did Bristol’s radical past have to say about the future?

Romantics, Mystics & Revolutionaries is a wild ride through Bristolian riot, anti-slavery, mysticism and psychedelics, told through the lives and ideas of two renegade poets: Samuel Taylor Coleridge and William Wordsworth.

The Romantic movement was, in part, a revolt against industrialisation and the mechanisation of the soul. But what might its dreams of renewal, imagination and human freedom offer an age of ecological crisis, technological acceleration and despair?

Part storytelling stage-show, part performance lecture, Pete the Temp unfolds a journey of music, comedy and lyricism — a collision of scholarship and live entertainment.

Expect reverence, resistance and enchantment from a time of slavery and war.

FROM DOUG TIL DAW

Doug Francisco

Doug went to Stonehenge Free Festival when he was 15 and has literally only just got back.

From Doug Til Dawn is a rollercoaster of ramblings and reminiscences into the seedy underbelly of cabaret — and back again — from Bristol’s legendary Red Rebel Ringmaster, clown and circus impresario.

Witness the psycho-dramas, internal dialogues and multiphrenic mutterings of a life lived backstage: a soul striving to shine divine beneath the shadow of the great machine, who has finally decided it’s time to have a serious word with himselves.

Two performers. Two journeys. One night of revolt.
