Willy Russell’s iconic play Shirley Valentine, will be at the Alma Tavern Theatre this June.
The one-woman show is produced by Andi Ford of ProAct Theatre and directed by Steve Woolley.
Actor Emma Smart, takes on the role of Shirley. It’s likely to be a thoroughly entertaining performance having seen Emma in action at the Clifton theatre before.
Shirley Valentine is a comedy drama following the empowering journey taken by a middle-aged working class woman.
When her friend wins a holiday for two in Greece, she packs her bags and heads off for rest and relaxation. What she finds is everything that was missing from her life in England, deciding not to return.
“We’re telling a story that still resonates deeply today,” director Steve Woolley says. “Shirley isn’t just a character—she’s every woman who’s ever questioned her place, her worth, or the life she’s built.”
Shirley Valentine will be at the Alma Tavern Theatre from 10-14 June 2025.
