Terrys: An American Tragedy About Cars, Customers, and Selling Cars to Customers – Alma Tavern Theatre

It’s Memorial Day weekend in the US-of-A. The sales team at Terry’s Cars and Automobiles is preparing to honour the fallen by slashing prices on some gently used, (mostly) American-made cars. But the pressure’s on. If Terry’s team doesn’t shift 66 cars by Monday, there’ll be hell to pay.
Terry’s: An American Tragedy About Cars, Customers, And Selling Cars To Customers is the debut show of Lecoq-trained company Brillig, who are based in Gloucestershire.
It was initially inspired by This American Life’s podcast episode 129 Cars.
Brillig have combined clowning, physical theatre and original music to turn marketing jargon into a hilarious poetry of its own.
The show will take the audience on a ride through the silly and disturbing side of American car dealerships, exposing the madness of the American Dream.
Audiences are promised a show that fans of tongue-in-cheek musicals like The Book of Mormon will enjoy as well as TV and pop culture like The Simpsons, David Lynch and Dr Strangelove.
The show premiered this year at Brighton Fringe, shortlisted for Best New Show. It also hit the Edinburgh Fringe back in the summer.
The theatre company are currently out on tour, playing their final performance at the Clifton theatre on 14 November 2025.
