The Freshwater Five – Blakehay Theatre Weston Super Mare
Theatre company Deadman, from the Isle of Wight, brings The Freshwater Five to the Blakehay Theatre in Weston Super Mare this Feburary.
The new play looks at the group of fisherman from the Isle of Wight and dubbed the Freshwater Five who were convicted of conspiracy to import £53m of cocaine.
Were these five ordinary fishermen innocent or really international drug smugglers?
The men – Jamie Green, Jon Beere, Zoran Dresic, Daniel Payne and Scott Birtwistle – were sentenced to a combined 104 years in prison, but continue to proclaim their innocence.
The Freshwater Five is the debut work of Liam Patrick Harrison, told by creatives from the Isle of Wight.
The creative team have worked directly with the five men, their families and lawyer Emily Bolton, the founder of APPEAL.
APPEAL is a charity law practice that fights miscarriages of justice and demands reform.
The Freshwater Five will be at the Blakehay Theatre on 27 – 28 February 2026
