Work While They Sleep – Alma Tavern Theatre

Jenny Futuro brings Work While They Sleep to the Alma Tavern Theatre this September.

It’s an adaptation of a new Brazilian feminist sci-fi play. It tells the story of a woman who accidentally conjures a sinister alter ego.

In a bid to achieve her dreams of success, she needs the alter ego to work for her between the ‘lost hours’ of midnight and six in the morning.

Problems soon begin when the alter ego wants more time, space and control…

While They Sleep explores themes around late stage capitalism and how it traps women within a continuous cycle of abuse – but also convincing them it was their idea.

It’s told through physical theatre and video art.

The production is supported by Arts Council England as part of the UK/England Season of Culture 2025-26.
