SUMMARY:The Last Five Years - Barn Theatre
DESCRIPTION:The new production of The Last Five Years is a Built by Barn production from Barn Theatre\, Reading Rep Theatre and Theatre Royal Bath. It will star Martha Kirby as Kathy and Guy Woolf as Jamie. \n\nThe hit musical follows two New Yorkers in a relationship that’s lasted five years so far. The question is whether they can remain united as their lives move in different directions. \nA twisting plot sees Jamie’s side of the story start at the moment they meet. Cathy’s story starts at the end moving backwards. The pair meet once in the middle. \nIt’s a smart\, entertaining and heartfelt musical. \nDirector Hal Chambers said that he’s been longing to direct the show for over 20 years\, being a “passionate admirer” of Jason Robert Brown’s work. He called the storytelling music and emotional depth in the show “unmatched”. \n“The narrative structure\, with Cathy moving backwards through time and Jamie forwards\, creates a compelling theatrical puzzle reminiscent of a Christopher Nolan film\,” he says. \n“It feels like a haunting memory play – dreamlike\, poetic\, and full of magical realism. Our production will lean into that\, using bold imagery and movement to explore the ghosts of a relationship and the raw beauty of love and heartbreak. The music is breath-taking – joyful\, witty\, devastating – and I can’t wait to bring it to life with our cast. SUMMARY:Bad Lads at Tobacco Factory Theatres
DESCRIPTION:Graeae Theatre Company will be bringing their latest production – Bad Lads by Mike Kenny – to Tobacco Factory Theatres this October. \nThe play has been created from the testimonies of former inmates at Medomsley Youth Detention Centre in County Durham in the 1980s. \nThe prison was used to incarcerate young men who had been involved in petty crime. But what happened inside the walls was much worse. \nThe play gives voice to a group of men who have been unheard in the past and who had their lives wrecked because of a piece of government policy that many would argue was ineffective\, disproportionate and lastingly detrimental. \nMike Kenny’s play uncovers the truth behind what happened to these young men\, revealing how it still impacts their lives some forty years after the events and looks at a system that failed these working-class men. At a time when the cry for accountability is louder than ever; Bad Lads demands remembrance and calls for justice. \nAll performances will integrate British Sign Language (BSL)\, audio description\, creative captions and will be presented in a relaxed environment. \nBooking details below
