SUMMARY:Circus City 2025 - Bristol
DESCRIPTION:The UK’s leading festival of contemporary circus – Circus City – returns to Bristol this year. \nThe event brings international acts to venues across the city. \nThis year will see acts from countries to include Sweden\, Belgium\, France\, Spain\, Lithuania\, Germany and the USA. \nThere will also be acts from Bristol as well as the wider UK. \nBristol is already hugely fortunate to have major circus school Circomedia based in the St Paul’s area of the city. \n“For 2025\, Circus City is taking Bodies of Care as its over-arching theme\, inviting audiences to explore circus work that embeds practices of care into the way it is made and performed\, and what it says\,” Festival director Nicole A’Court Stuart says. \n“From hand-to-hand and bike acrobatics\, hair hanging and contortion\, to clowning\, aerial silks\, street dance on a giant treadmill\, and some of the most complex and ingenious juggling in the world – we’ll look at caring as a strategy for survival\, for resistance\, for joy and as the basis for brilliant and inclusive circus work.” \nFeatured Image: Rollercoaster – Fahimeh Hekmatandish

SUMMARY:The Last Five Years - Barn Theatre
DESCRIPTION:The new production of The Last Five Years is a Built by Barn production from Barn Theatre\, Reading Rep Theatre and Theatre Royal Bath. It will star Martha Kirby as Kathy and Guy Woolf as Jamie. \n\nThe hit musical follows two New Yorkers in a relationship that’s lasted five years so far. The question is whether they can remain united as their lives move in different directions. \nA twisting plot sees Jamie’s side of the story start at the moment they meet. Cathy’s story starts at the end moving backwards. The pair meet once in the middle. \nIt’s a smart\, entertaining and heartfelt musical. \nDirector Hal Chambers said that he’s been longing to direct the show for over 20 years\, being a “passionate admirer” of Jason Robert Brown’s work. He called the storytelling music and emotional depth in the show “unmatched”. \n“The narrative structure\, with Cathy moving backwards through time and Jamie forwards\, creates a compelling theatrical puzzle reminiscent of a Christopher Nolan film\,” he says. \n“It feels like a haunting memory play – dreamlike\, poetic\, and full of magical realism. Our production will lean into that\, using bold imagery and movement to explore the ghosts of a relationship and the raw beauty of love and heartbreak. The music is breath-taking – joyful\, witty\, devastating – and I can’t wait to bring it to life with our cast. Performed in intimate venues\, our vision promises a deeply personal and emotionally resonant Last Five Years that captures the show’s unique intimacy and power.”
