SUMMARY:The Ocean Can Be A Bridge - Alma Tavern Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Frederick Douglas\, escaped slave and leading abolitionist has arrived in Bristol in 1846 as part of a speaking tour of the UK. \nAs is Bristol’s reputation\, West Country campaigners for the abolition of slavery have become noted internationally for taking action. \nHowever\, with Douglass’ arrival tensions grow between those who believe in radical direct action and those who favour more moderate approaches. \nCaught between his political commitments as well as his personal life\, Douglass finds his own happiness could tear apart the very movement he leads. \nThe Ocean Can Be A Bridge is a new play co-written by Richard Bradbury and Dave Samuels. Dave was born and grew up in Bristol. His father Norman Samuels led the famous Bristol Bus Boycott in 1963. \n

SUMMARY:The Highgate Vampire - Tobacco Factory Theatres
DESCRIPTION:Bag of Beard is coming to Bristol this October with their brand new production The Highgate Vampire. \nIt’s one of those stories that’s a bit like those movies ending with the chilling statement ‘based on a true story’. \nThe dark comedy is all about the infamous Highgate Vampire sightings in London back in the 1970s. \nA demon-hunting priest joins forces with a man who’s a tobacconist by day and a vanquisher of the undead by night. \nThe show asks that you imagine\, among other things\, what if The Woman in Black had been performed by The Mighty Boosh? \nIt’s the perfect strange\, funny and fascinating story we need this October as we creep towards Halloween. \n\n\n  \n

SUMMARY:The Kings Speech - Barn Theatre
DESCRIPTION:A country on the precipice of another terrible war. An abdicated king. A constitutional crisis. And the only man who can provide hope for the nervous British public is Bertie – a man who is shy\, unprepared for monarchy and\, worst of all\, has a debilitating speech impediment. \nWith the future of the monarchy\, and Britain itself\, on the line\, an historic radio address looms over a man who can barely stammer through full sentences. Desperate\, Bertie and his family turn to an unconventional speech therapist from Australia to turn him into the king Britain can believe in. \nAs royal protocol meets unorthodox challenges\, what emerges is an unlikely but deeply meaningful friendship. Adapted from the Oscar-winning film\, this exciting new production from the acclaimed Barn Theatre blends humour\, heart and high stakes in a beloved drama about duty\, courage and finding one’s voice.
