SUMMARY:Scenes With Girls by Miriam Battye - Alma Tavern Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Eightball Productions return to the Bristol stage with Miriam Battye’s Scenes With Girls. \nTosh. Lou. Fran. 22 scenes. Other friends have come\, got boyfriends\, and gone. So what? These girls have each other. Between them\, there is love. And that’s enough. That is enough. \nThe play was first staged at The Royal Court in 2020. It follows Lou as she revels in her newfound freedom whilst Tosh grapples with jealousy and unspoken feelings. \nThe arrival of their old friend Fran\, loved up and seemingly content with conventional romance\, complicates their dynamic. Battye’s play delves into the complexities of female sexual empowerment\, the pressure to perform happiness\, and the fear of being left behind in a rapidly changing world. \nTosh played by Phoebe Taylor\nLou played by Hattie Millard\nFran played by Iola King-Alleyne\nDirected by Emma Morgan

SUMMARY:Wearing The Trousers: the true story of Vesta Tilley - Alma Tavern Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Vesta Tilley was one of the most successful cross-dressing music hall stars that most of the world has never heard of. \nSpanning Vesta’s life from childhood to her mid-seventies\, Vesta Tilley has been written for Seizing The Day Company’s diva performer\, Alexandra Pickford. Alex is also in her mid-seventies and will bring the show to life in a series of flashbacks supported by a multi-role cast of three additional actors. \nUsing original music and songs from Vesta Tilley’s playbook and some reworked pieces\, the story leads us from her dotage in Monaco back to her theatre debut aged five\, to the extraordinary People’s Tribute book\, presented to her by Ellen Terry and signed by admirers Charlie Chaplin\, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle\, Harry Houdini and two million members of the public\, to celebrate her career and retirement from the stage. \n  \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:I Have Been Here Before - Alma Tavern Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Axbridge Community Theare brings J.B. Priestley’s play I Have Been Here Before to the Alma Tavern Theatre. \nA woman\, her husband and a young headmaster meet a mysterious professor at an isolated pub. \nHis probing enquiries reveal that all three are unhappy and confused. They’ve been repeating the same old scenes\, with catastrophic consequences. \nNow\, finally\, is there a chance to break out of the loop? \nLike Priestley’s famous An Inspector Calls\, this 1937 “time play” was influenced by contemporary ideas in science and philosophy. How does Dr Gortler know which characters are headed for disaster? Do we really have the free will to change the course of events? Or are our lives essentially pre-determined? \nAn imperturbable landlord and his spiky daughter add observations on social class into the mix. The whole cast react differently to the arrival of an eccentric foreigner. This all adds up to much more than the average “spooky pub” mystery. We may be watching in 2026\, but somehow\, disturbingly\, we sense we’ve been here before. \n
