SUMMARY:Marshmallow Me by Rosie Pepper at Alma Tavern Theatre Bristol
DESCRIPTION:New writing from Rosie Pepper\, brings to the stage a heartfelt and uplifting piece of theatre. It delves into the difficulties young people can experience in pursuit of their dream of becoming an actor. \nRuby is a young girl who grew up in Scarborough. In order to further her acting career\, she made the move to London\, hopeful of bright lights and living the dream. \nThe move was challenging. Opportunities were there\, but\, so was culture shock\, unstable housing and financial struggles – which resulted in an eating disorder taking her down a dark path. \n  \n \nThough therapy sessions\, true love and work\, she came back stronger than before. \nMarshmallow Me\, is described as ‘heartfelt’ and ‘hilarious’. \nThe theatre company has partnered with charity SEED (Support and Empathy for people with Eating Disorders). \nThey will be raising awareness as well as funds for the charity. \nMarshmallow Me will be at the Alma Tavern Theatre on 20 May 2025 \nCast and Creatives\nWritten by Rosie Pepper\nPerformed by Rosie Pepper\nDirected by Scott Le Crass\nLighting Design by Rachel E Cleary\nSound Design by Raffaela Pancucci\nProduced by Joe Brown\nStage Management by Meghan Bartual Smyth \n  \n

SUMMARY:Loop - The Alma Tavern Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Dark comedy Loop\, is coming to the Alma Tavern Theatre this April. \nIt’s described as a dark comedy with a “timey-wimey” twist. \nAlice and Alfie’s relationship is in the rut to end all ruts. The same hellos. The same wild suspicions. The same Angel Slices. Night after night after night. After night. \nIf only they could turn the page. \nReeling from a tortuous night of sci-fi cosplay and armed with a vague memory of something really quite bad\, Alice and Alfie peer into the darkness. There’s something there. Could be a way out. Could be an end to a life of endless bickering\, bad poetry\, and shoddy home improvements. \nCould be\, couldn’t it? Or it could be their worst nightmare. \nThe show is performed by Bristol-based theatre company Soul Cake Theatre. \n\nYou can find out more about the company here: https://www.facebook.com/soulcaketheatre \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Broken Glass by Arthur Miller - Axbridge Community Theatre - Alma Tavern Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Axbridge Community Theatre will be at the Alma Tavern Theatre this April with Arthur Miller’s Broken Glass. \nThe ingrained antisemitism faced by the Gellburgs daily is bearable. But what happens when racist violence flares up on the other side of the globe? Can the rise of the Nazis really affect a Jewish couple in Brooklyn? Will their marriage survive the threat to their livelihoods and their health? \n \nSylvia is obsessed by disturbing images from Nazi Germany\, reproduced in the local press. Her husband Phillip downplays his Jewishness in order to fit in. When Sylvia loses the use of her legs\, they engage a Doctor from their own community. But is he competent enough to tackle the root causes of her physical – and perhaps mental – illness? \nFirst published in 1994\, when debates about the holocaust still raged in the USA\, the play’s action is set in late 1938. By examining Jewish identity -through world events\, local attitudes and personal feelings – its themes remain strikingly relevant today. \nFor more information about Axbridge Community Theatre: https://www.facebook.com/AxbridgeACT
