SUMMARY:Buff at Tobacco Factory Theatres
DESCRIPTION:Edinburgh Festival hit Buff\, is on UK tour which will be coming to Tobacco Factory Theatres this June. \nThe one-man play\, performed by Jamal Franklin\, follows a plus-sized\, gay primary school teacher. He decides to sublet his flat to a ‘buff’ Instagram model after a bad break-up from a six-year relationship. \nBuff is described as both ‘funny yet poignant’\, exploring LGBTQ themes with hook-up culture and the challenge of body image pressures\, social media jealousy leading to self-acceptance. \nWriter Ben Fensome says: “BUFF came out of a discussion Scott and I had about contemporary LGBTQ theatre and who usually gets featured in those stories\, which actors get cast\, what marketing usually looks like etc. We wanted to explore a character that we hadn’t seen be centred before and out of that discussion our character in BUFF was born. We’ve been really blown away by the response from LGBTQ audiences who have related to us how they haven’t really seen a character be centred like this particularly in queer theatre. I hope it is a call out for the community to look out for each other more\, and the centre point of that is of course\, the ability to love and accept ourselves.” \nCast and Creatives\nMan – Jamal Franklin\nDirector – Scott Le Crass\nWriter – Ben Fensome\nProducer – Emmerson And Ward Productions \nBuff will be a Tobacco Factory Theatres on 07 June 2025 \nHome: https://backstagebristol.com/\nBluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/chopsybristol.bsky.social\nTikTok: www.tiktok.com/@chopsybristoltt\nFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/backstagebristol\nYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/chopsybaby

SUMMARY:Cutting Out at Tobacco Factory Theatres
DESCRIPTION:Bristol based artist and activist Viv Gordon\, will be coming to Tobacco Factory Theatres in June with her solo play Cutting Out. \nViv is an artist and campaigner whose work is grounded in her lived experience as a Child Sexual Abuse (CSA) survivor. She is Artistic Director of Viv Gordon Company – an arts and social justice organisation creating art and performance to increase the voice and visibility for and with CSA survivors. \nHer show – Cutting Out – is a performance piece set within an installation of hundreds of cut out dolls hanging up and joined at the hands. They come from audiences seeing her shows who have been invited to cut out more dolls to add to the existing ones already on stage. The chain of dolls grows by each performance and workshop. \n  \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\nPhotography by Ed Felton \n  \nThrough the performance aspect of the show\, Viv navigates the act of remembering her experiences as a child with what happened next. \nAlongside the cutting out of the dolls\, the performance unites an emerging community of survivors and allies through creative expression and freedom. \n“From being alone in a vacuum of silence\, to creating a whole company that’s about art making\, writing and performing has been an incredible journey\,” Viv Gordon says. \n“It is wonderful to perform ‘Cutting Out’ as it means so much to me to say it all out loud and connect deeply with the audience. Collective witnessing of these stories is the first step in making change. Yes\, there is truth and horror in the vast number of Child Abuse Survivors reported\, but with humanity and being together\, revelling in words and images\, we can join in simple creative acts of resistance and build a giant paper chain of hope.” \nCutting Out will be at Gloucester Guildhall 20-21 May and Tobacco Factory Theatres from 05 – 07 June 2025 \nThe age recommendation of the show is aged 16 upwards. The work speaks about experiences of child sexual abuse.
