SUMMARY:Jacobs & Jones with Breadcrumbs - Alma Tavern Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Weston Super Mare company Bonnet Dog Theatre\, will be at the Alma Tavern Theatre this November with their show Jacobs & Jones with Breadcrumbs. \nThis isn’t just a Sketch Show… this is a Jacobs and Jones Sketch Show… with Breadcrumbs! \nGeorge Jacobs and Will Jones are in the back room. The scissor lift has sunk. The cellophane machine has eaten the forklift. And now there’s grease in their socks… It can only mean one thing. Sketches! \nIn a world of tinned laughter and processed jokes\, where art is unceremoniously plopped into cans and wrapped in microplastics\, Jacobs and Jones will fight against the system\, breaking free from the shackles of involuntary sponsorship and poor product placement. \nExperience the extraterrestrial magic of the ever-curious Gleebleebleebs. \nBeware the man at the bus stop before he does something awful\, like start talking. \nEnjoy a luxury 8-course menu comprised of unfortunate spelling errors. \nAnd much\, much more!

Look no further than – Clifton Amateur Dramatics Society – CADS’ Robin Hood and Maid Marian: The Panto! \nThe Sheriff of Totterdown is rinsing the poor folks of Bristol dry – he and his emo henchman\, Guy of Gisborne\, have started taxing eating\, drinking\, walking\, running\, standing still\, breathing\, holding your breath\, sleeping and being awake – or being at a wake! \nMaid Marian has been doing her best to support the poor folks of Bristol but in this small provincial city – and period piece – there is only so much one woman can do! SUMMARY:Phantasia - The Mount Without
DESCRIPTION:Corali Dance Company comes to The Mount Without this November with Phantasia. \nIt features two new performance works: Daisy Dreams and Mannequin Dreams. \nBoth pieces explore the relationship between movement and sound-making. \nOne piece is a dream\, the other a nightmare. \nDaisy Dreams is is told by a cast of eight dancers. Inspired by painter Mark Beldan’s flower works\, it exists at the meeting point of image\, movement and sound. \nIt’s been created in collaboration with musician Matt Webb. \nToying with sentimentality\, Daisy Dreams creates an atmosphere of almost impossible dreaminess that is both joyful and absurd. \nMannequin Dreams \n“You are number 111 in the operating system. Please hold. Your call is important to us. Hello. We are a new civilisation. We move backwards and spin in circles. A memory once there now lost\, a memory where I was somebody different; someone who wasn’t abstract.” \nThis performance piece was inspired by Corali dancer Jackie Ryan’s idea to work with mannequins. \nMannequin Dreams creates a surreal\, almost horror-film atmosphere. \nNine dancers create a new reality based on memories of a previous world and what it was to be human. \nCorali Dance Company is an inclusive dance company that celebrates the creativity\, talent and individuality of people with learning disabilities. \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:The Lower Depths - Tobacco Factory Theatres
DESCRIPTION:The Bristol School of Acting will be at Tobacco Factory Theatres this November with Maxim Gorky’s 1902 masterpiece The Lower Depths. \nThe play is brought to life by an ensemble production of graduating students of Bristol School of Acting. \nLocked away from the sun\, a group of thieves\, fallen aristocrats\, and weary dreamers pass the nights exchanging wit and heavy truths. When a mysterious pilgrim arrives spinning tales of a better world\, a fragile spark of hope ignites\, but can the truth survive when comfort is built on illusions?  \nThe Lower Depths is an unflinching but deeply compassionate study of human illusion\, poverty and the determination to survive. It draws on Gorky’s own experience as an orphan at the age of 11 wandering homeless across pre-revolutionary Russia\, observing a society feeding on itself; seeing the value and purpose of human life set against the dreams of the oppressed.  \nDirected by Aaron Parsons\nTranslated by Jenny Covan\nDesigned by Aldo Vazquez\nLighting by Amy Mae\nSound Designer/Composer Jack Drewry

SUMMARY:REVOLT! - The Wardrobe Theatre
DESCRIPTION:REVOLT! is a double header of radical history and renegade ramblings from Pete the Temp & Doug Francisco \nTwo of Bristol’s most gloriously unorthodox performers join forces for an evening of radical history\, psychedelic Romanticism\, circus confessionals and backstage madness. \nPoet\, performer and storyteller Pete the Temp and legendary Bristol ringmaster\, clown and circus impresario Doug Francisco journey from the revolutionary ferment of the 1790s to the seedy underbelly of modern cabaret. \nROMANTICS\, MYSTICS & REVOLUTIONARIES\nPete the Temp \nWhat did Bristol’s radical past have to say about the future? \nRomantics\, Mystics & Revolutionaries is a wild ride through Bristolian riot\, anti-slavery\, mysticism and psychedelics\, told through the lives and ideas of two renegade poets: Samuel Taylor Coleridge and William Wordsworth. \nThe Romantic movement was\, in part\, a revolt against industrialisation and the mechanisation of the soul. But what might its dreams of renewal\, imagination and human freedom offer an age of ecological crisis\, technological acceleration and despair? \nPart storytelling stage-show\, part performance lecture\, Pete the Temp unfolds a journey of music\, comedy and lyricism — a collision of scholarship and live entertainment. \nExpect reverence\, resistance and enchantment from a time of slavery and war. \n  \nFROM DOUG TIL DAW\nDoug Francisco \nDoug went to Stonehenge Free Festival when he was 15 and has literally only just got back. \nFrom Doug Til Dawn is a rollercoaster of ramblings and reminiscences into the seedy underbelly of cabaret — and back again — from Bristol’s legendary Red Rebel Ringmaster\, clown and circus impresario. \nWitness the psycho-dramas\, internal dialogues and multiphrenic mutterings of a life lived backstage: a soul striving to shine divine beneath the shadow of the great machine\, who has finally decided it’s time to have a serious word with himselves. \nTwo performers. Two journeys. One night of revolt. \n

It demands that we all do more for the LGBT+ community to include all queer voices and be ‘unapologetically visible’. \nFeatured Image: Theatre Group GUMBO – Orlando Fringe \n

SUMMARY:Terry’s: An American Tragedy About Cars\, Customers\, and Selling Cars to Customers - The Wardrobe Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Lecoq-trained Gloucestershire theatre company BRILLIG comes to The Wardrobe Theatre this autumn with Terry’s: An American Tragedy About Cars\, Customers\, and Selling Cars to Customers. \nIt’s Memorial Day weekend. The US-of-A. The motley\, motor-mouthed sales team at Terry’s Cars & Automobiles has just four days to hit their monthly target. With their salaries and sanity on the line\, they must shift 66 cars by Monday or face the wrath of their overlord boss\, Terry. \nThe show is an absurd\, all-American devised comedy combining clowning\, physical theatre\, and original music. Initially inspired by This American Life’s podcast episode ‘129 Cars’\, Terry’s takes audiences on a ride through the silly\, surreal\, and disturbing reaches of US capitalism\, revealing the absurdity and madness rumbling under the gleaming bonnet of the American Dream. \nBRILLIG creates entertaining\, virtuosic\, big-hearted original work which uses clowning and physical theatre to provoke personal and political reflection.

SUMMARY:Running With Scissors - Alma Tavern Theatre
DESCRIPTION:An exploration of the weird\, wild and wonderful world of women surgeons will be coming to the Alma Tavern Theatre this autumn. \nRunning With Scissors is solo show written and performed by Ronnie Conboy. She’s a storyteller\, actor – and former orthopaedic surgeon who worked in the NHS for 35 years. \nThe show brings together her love of storytelling and performance with the career which she says shaped her life. \nRunning With Scissors will bring audiences lesser known true stories about women surgeons who made medical history. The brave ones\, the bold ones and the radical ones. \nAlong with personal reflections from contemporary surgery and plenty of dark humour\, there will be historical true stories. Expect tales of cross-dressers defying the law\, criminals and radical change-makers who went ahead and picked up a scalpel when society told them not to. \n It’s a celebration of the defiant spirit of the women who carved out a place in history. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Wider society\, and women surgeons themselves\, are led to believe that we are somehow an exception\, isolated in a world belonging to men\,” Ronnie Conboy says. \n“But there is a long and honourable tradition of women healers\, from our earliest beginnings to the present day. I want to reclaim that heritage\, to showcase our role models\, and share the stories of the fascinating\, courageous and frankly\, sometimes quite wild women who have shaped our history.” \n  \n  \n
