SUMMARY:The Silence of Snow: The Life of Patrick Hamilton at the Alma Tavern Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Witty tribute to British playwright and novelist comes to the Clifton theatre\nMark Farrelly is back at the Alma Tavern Theatre this July with a Sunday matinée of The Silence of Snow: The Life of Patrick Hamilton. \nThe solo show dives into the life of British playwright and novelist Patrick Hamilton. \nHamilton’s two most successful plays – Rope in 1929 and Gas Light in 1938 – were both made into famous movies. \nDespite his success\, which includes novels Hangover Square and The Slaves of Solitude\, Hamilton struggled with alcoholism. \nThe Silence of Snow: The Life of Patrick Hamilton asks – Why do so many of us get through life without feeling we ever truly knew another person? \nThe play blends original writing with that of Hamilton’s. It’s set in an electro-therapy clinic in the 1950s and covers all of his turbulent life. \nAudiences have described it as ‘witty’ and ‘engaging’ . \nDirected by Linda Marlowe \nBooking info below \n\nHome: https://backstagebristol.com/\nBluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/chopsybristol.bsky.social\nTikTok: www.tiktok.com/@chopsybristoltt\nFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/backstagebristol\nYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/chopsybaby

SUMMARY:I Met All My Friends on Dating Apps by Jess Andrews at Alma Tavern Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Expect disastrous dates and ‘questionable’ sock puppetry in this comedic exploration of love and connection\n\nTheatre-maker Jess Andrews is bringing her comedic autobiographical show I Met All My Friends on Dating Apps\, to Bristol this July. \nThe show\, which will be at the Alma Tavern Theatre\, is an exploration of polyamory. It’s told through spoken word\, projected data from dating apps and ‘questionable’ sock puppetry. Jess will be re-enacting disastrous dates\, first kisses and unexpected intimacy\, as she invites the audience to reconsider what love and connection can mean. \nThrough I Met All My Friends on Dating Apps\, Jess is seeking to challenge what she calls an ‘over dramatic’ and ‘unrealistic’ portrayal of non-monogamy in the media. \n “It was important to me to give an unexaggerated narrative of polyamory\, so that non-monogamous folk see their experiences reflected and validated\, and in turn might be inspired to share their own stories\,” Jess explains. \n“Common representations of polyamory tend to diminish the richness and nuance of the non-monogamous relationships that I see around me. While parts of the show will feel familiar to anyone who has been on a dating app\, I hope that while monogamous audiences laugh with me\, they also gain a different perspective on how we can experience love.” \n\nCast and Creatives\nWriter and performer Jess Andrews\nDirectorand dramaturgy Katie Overstall\nSound designer Rob Sear\nFeatured image: Jericho Reid \nBooking info below \nHome: https://backstagebristol.com/\nBluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/chopsybristol.bsky.social\nTikTok: www.tiktok.com/@chopsybristoltt\nFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/backstagebristol\nYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/chopsybaby

SUMMARY:Romeo and Juliet - Kelvin Players
DESCRIPTION:Much-loved Shakespeare play staged through a queer lens ahead of Bristol Pride\n\nThis summer\, ahead of Bristol Pride\, comes a queer production of William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. \n\n\nThe play features Shakespeare’s original text but the production is explored through the lens of a queer love story between two women. \n\n\n\n\nIt comes from the Kelvin Players\, a Bristol theatre company that has been staging work in the city for nearly 100 years. \nDirected by Chris Hawkins and Sarah Lawrence\, this production explores the tragedy through the restraints the world enforces on queerness. \nAudiences should expect a retro feel set in a liminal space\, one that sits neither in the past nor the present. But there’s guaranteed to be a ‘healthy dose’ of LGBTQ+ aesthetic influence. \n“We wanted to take a beloved classic and give it a spin that brings a fresh resonance for modern audiences\,” directors Chris Hawkins and Sarah Lawrence say. \n“We haven’t altered the text in any significant way – we’ve simply framed it in a new light. \n“Our production is colourful\, giddy\, and\, of course\, tragic. It is actually a very funny script\, and we’ve leaned into that somewhat because really wanted to capture that feeling of new love – and young love – so that our audiences come along on the journey with these characters that they know and love so well.” \nRomeo & Juliet runs at the Kelvin Players from 24 – 28 June and 01 – 5 July 2025 \nFor more information about the Kelvin Players\, visit: https://www.kelvinplayers.co.uk/ \nBooking info below \n\nHome: https://backstagebristol.com/\nBluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/chopsybristol.bsky.social\nTikTok: www.tiktok.com/@chopsybristoltt\nFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/backstagebristol\nYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/chopsybaby
