SUMMARY:Buff at Tobacco Factory Theatres
DESCRIPTION:Edinburgh Festival hit Buff\, is on UK tour which will be coming to Tobacco Factory Theatres this June. \nThe one-man play\, performed by Jamal Franklin\, follows a plus-sized\, gay primary school teacher. He decides to sublet his flat to a ‘buff’ Instagram model after a bad break-up from a six-year relationship. \nBuff is described as both ‘funny yet poignant’\, exploring LGBTQ themes with hook-up culture and the challenge of body image pressures\, social media jealousy leading to self-acceptance. \nWriter Ben Fensome says: “BUFF came out of a discussion Scott and I had about contemporary LGBTQ theatre and who usually gets featured in those stories\, which actors get cast\, what marketing usually looks like etc. We wanted to explore a character that we hadn’t seen be centred before and out of that discussion our character in BUFF was born. We’ve been really blown away by the response from LGBTQ audiences who have related to us how they haven’t really seen a character be centred like this particularly in queer theatre. I hope it is a call out for the community to look out for each other more\, and the centre point of that is of course\, the ability to love and accept ourselves.” \nCast and Creatives\nMan – Jamal Franklin\nDirector – Scott Le Crass\nWriter – Ben Fensome\nProducer – Emmerson And Ward Productions \nBuff will be a Tobacco Factory Theatres on 07 June 2025 \nHome: https://backstagebristol.com/\nBluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/chopsybristol.bsky.social\nTikTok: www.tiktok.com/@chopsybristoltt\nFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/backstagebristol\nYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/chopsybaby

SUMMARY:Cutting Out at Tobacco Factory Theatres
DESCRIPTION:Bristol based artist and activist Viv Gordon\, will be coming to Tobacco Factory Theatres in June with her solo play Cutting Out. \nViv is an artist and campaigner whose work is grounded in her lived experience as a Child Sexual Abuse (CSA) survivor. She is Artistic Director of Viv Gordon Company – an arts and social justice organisation creating art and performance to increase the voice and visibility for and with CSA survivors. \nHer show – Cutting Out – is a performance piece set within an installation of hundreds of cut out dolls hanging up and joined at the hands. They come from audiences seeing her shows who have been invited to cut out more dolls to add to the existing ones already on stage. The chain of dolls grows by each performance and workshop. \n  \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\nPhotography by Ed Felton \n  \nThrough the performance aspect of the show\, Viv navigates the act of remembering her experiences as a child with what happened next. \nAlongside the cutting out of the dolls\, the performance unites an emerging community of survivors and allies through creative expression and freedom. \n“From being alone in a vacuum of silence\, to creating a whole company that’s about art making\, writing and performing has been an incredible journey\,” Viv Gordon says. \n“It is wonderful to perform ‘Cutting Out’ as it means so much to me to say it all out loud and connect deeply with the audience. Collective witnessing of these stories is the first step in making change. Yes\, there is truth and horror in the vast number of Child Abuse Survivors reported\, but with humanity and being together\, revelling in words and images\, we can join in simple creative acts of resistance and build a giant paper chain of hope.” \nCutting Out will be at Gloucester Guildhall 20-21 May and Tobacco Factory Theatres from 05 – 07 June 2025 \nThe age recommendation of the show is aged 16 upwards. The work speaks about experiences of child sexual abuse. SUMMARY:Clean Slate at the White Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Clean Slate\, by Louisa Marshall and Amber Charlie Conroy\, will be at the White Theatre in Bristol this June. \nIt’s a chance to see a brand new work in progress performance followed by a feedback forum for the two theatre makers. \nThe Bristol-based pair make what they call ‘socially engaged comedy’ which is rooted in research and rage\, as well as real-life experiences. \nThe show is in the final stages of its development ahead of a run at the Riverside Studios in London. Excitingly for the pair\, it will then go to the Summerhall for the Edinburgh Fringe this year. \nThe show has been created in collaboration with Cultural Studies scholar and world-leading audience researcher Dr Kirsty Sedgman at the University of Bristol. \nClean Slate is described as a ‘darkly comic’ piece of theatre which is ‘highly interative’. \nIt explores the effects of weaponised incompetence and unpaid domestic labour. \n‘Blowjobs\, Bleach\, and Beef Bourguignon. A woman’s domestic life crumbles as she is pushed to breaking point by her boyfriend’s relentless domestic incompetence –– and you’ve been cast as the boyfriend. She navigates the full weight of cooking\, cleaning\, planning\, and hosting while questioning how much more she can take. Clean Slate refuses to let you sit comfortably in the dark; it drags you into the mess. You’re not merely watching – you’re a witness\, a confidante\, an unwilling participant. One moment\, you’re laughing; the next\, the air is thick with something unspoken. How many plates can pile up before they start being thrown?’ \nClean Slate will be at the White Theatre on 05 June 2025 \nBooking information below \n\n\nCast and Creatives\nWriter/performer – Louisa Marshall\nWriter/director – Amber Charlie Conroy \n  \n\n\nHome: https://backstagebristol.com/\nBluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/chopsybristol.bsky.social\nTikTok: www.tiktok.com/@chopsybristoltt\nFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/backstagebristol\nYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/chopsybaby

SUMMARY:The Wheel of Nouns at The Wardrobe Theatre
DESCRIPTION:The Wheel of Nouns is a new\, one-person cabaret-comedy about The Gender Fairy and their quest to turn everyone in the world trans…(well sort of). Using a spinning game show wheel\, and the idea that any noun could be a gender. \nThe Gender Fairy invites people to volunteer to have their gender “transed” in a silly\, low stakes way. \nAs the game progresses\, however\, we start to see the cracks in The Gender Fairy’s plan\, and find out just why they’ve embarked on this chaotic quest in the first place. \nPart stand-up\, part theatre\, part game show\,  The Wheel of Nouns illustrates the flexibility of the language we use to define ourselves\, and invites people to revel in their right to choose who they are. \nThe Wheel of Nouns will be at The Wardrobe Theatre on 04 June 2025 \nHome: https://backstagebristol.com/\nBluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/chopsybristol.bsky.social\nTikTok: www.tiktok.com/@chopsybristoltt\nFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/backstagebristol\nYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/chopsybaby

SUMMARY:Ignacio Lopez - Señor Self-Destruct at the Hen & Chicken
DESCRIPTION:Popular international comedian Ignacio Lopez\, has added an extra Bristol date to his Señor Self-Destruct tour. \nAfter selling out his first date\, an additional performance was added to keep up with demand. \nThe comedian is a regular feature on TV\, having taken part in shows such as Live at the Apollo\, Have I got News For You and QI. \nLopez’s show sees him on a mission to destroy himself in order to build a ‘better version’. \n“I set out to write a show about self improvement because I’ve truly destroyed my body and mind performing stand-up comedy\,” he says. \n“It’s time I sorted myself out\, but not before I spend another 5 months traveling up and down the UK on public transport\, eating terrible food and not getting any sleep. The world is on fire and I can’t fix that but I will tell you my best jokes about British tourists\, Spanish horror stories and the origins of music festivals. Also I try to do a cockney accent at one point\, which is worth the price of admission alone.” \nIgnacio Lopez – Señor Self-Destruct will be at the Hen & Chicken on 31 May 2025 \nFeatured Image: Michelle Huggleston

SUMMARY:Section 28 and Me by Tom Marshman at The Weston Studio
DESCRIPTION:Tom Marshman returns to the stage with a brand new piece of writing for 2025 – Section 28 and Me. \nThe show explores queer stories around the effects that Section 28 had on the LGBTQIA+ community. \nSection 28 was a piece of legislation which came into effect in May 1988 during Margaret Thatcher’s time as Prime Minister\, lasting as late as 2003. It stated that local authorities in England\, Scotland and Wales must not promote homosexuality\, promote the teaching of the acceptability\, not publish materials with the intention of promoting homosexuality. \n \n  \nTheatre-maker Tom Marshman asks what the impact of growing up under this legislation was. As well as drawing on his own personal reflections\, he asked queer and intergenerational communities what their stories were. \nDescribed as ‘playful’ and ‘heartfelt’\, Tom Marshman excels at creating insightful theatre so this is definitely one to  watch. \nFor more information about Tom Marshman\, visit: https://www.tommarshman.com/ \nCast and Creatives\nWritten and Performed by Tom Marshman\nProduced by Sarah Warden\nLight Design byRyan O’Shea\nSound Designer – Jen Bell\, Adam Combes\, Bernie Hodges\nDirector – Laura Dannequin\nOutside Eye – Jen Bell\, Caroline Williams\nDramaturg – Ben Buratta\nCostume – Julian Smith\nTech – Ryan O’Shea\nAccess support – Iman Sultan West \nHome: https://backstagebristol.com/\nBluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/chopsybristol.bsky.social\nTikTok: www.tiktok.com/@chopsybristoltt\nFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/backstagebristol\nYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/chopsybaby
