SUMMARY:Living Spit Omlet: The Tragedy of Omlet Prince of Hen-mark - Pill Memorial Club
DESCRIPTION:The Tragedy of Omlet Prince of Hen-mark\nBy Stu McLoughlin (and William Shakespeare) \n“O\, that this too too solid shell would melt\,\nThaw and resolve itself into a dew…” \nThe question of suitability to play the Moody Dane has preoccupied theatre makers for\ncenturies. Scholars have long debated age\, physique\, gender and temperament – yet all\nhave overlooked the perfect candidate: an egg. \nEnter Omlet\, Prince of Hen-mark; Hamlet rehatched; fragile\, brooding\, on the brink of\ncracking under the pressure of his own Egg-sistential angst and joined by a full supporting\ncast of vegetables and assorted foodstuffs –  fresh from the fridge and prepared to present\nShakespeare’s greatest tragedy as you’ve never seen it before; retold by one man\, one egg\nand a trolley full of comestibles. \nBut this is no ordinary one man show. With live original music\, perishable puppetry\, and an\noverly confident reliance on bad puns\, actor Stu Mcloughlin juggles an entire allotment of\nShakespearean tragedy whilst trying not to turn his leading man into a leading flan. \nOmlet\, Prince of Hen-mark is a sumptuous scramble of skillful soliloquising\, small-scale\nsuspense and sunny-side-up Shakespearean silliness. A cracking night out\, which proves\nonce and for all that… \n…something is rotten in the state of Hen-mark. \n

SUMMARY:Brìghde Chaimbeul with Scottish Ensemble - Bristol Beacon
DESCRIPTION:Celtic music trailblazer Brìghde Chaimbeul joins Scottish Ensemble for ambitious new collaboration and tour. \nThe new musical performance weaves strings and Scottish smallpipes with Celtic mythology and stunning visuals by Jonny Ashworth. \nThe ancient resonance of the Scottish smallpipes meet the rich textures of a string orchestra in this groundbreaking new commission\, which received its World Premiere at the 2026 Edinburgh International Festival on 23 August. \nMythology and storytelling take centre stage in this ambitious cross-genre creation. The familiar sounds of a string orchestra are pulled in unfamiliar directions into a sound world shaped by drones\, just intonation\, and the earthly tonal spectrum of the pipes. The folklore and history of Skye comes to the fore; from traditional Gaelic waulking songs and the eerie tale of the Spòg Liath (“The grey paw”) to the phases of the moon and the landscape of Scotland’s islands. \nThe performance will blend live and electrically manipulated sound with specially commissioned visuals from Brìghde’s long-time collaborator Jonny Ashworth\, whose bewitching films draw on the landscapes and lore of Scotland’s highlands and islands. Audiences will encounter something both deeply rooted in Scottish heritage and boldly contemporary. \nFeatured Image: Tom Lovatt

SUMMARY:Living Spit Omlet: Prince of Henmark - The Wardrobe Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Living Spit will be at The Wardrobe Theatre this October with brand new show Omlet: Prince of Henmark. \nIt’s the story of Hamlet\, told by a variety of eggs and other foodstuffs puppeteered to camera and livestreamed. SUMMARY:Niplash - Tobacco Factory Theatres
DESCRIPTION:Bristol-based performer and theatre maker Karla Shacklock\, brings her show Niplash to Tobacco Factory Theatres this October. \nThe show is painful\, absurd\, heartbreaking\, heartwarming and full of love – a lot like feeding. \nIt’s a highly physical and visual lactivist call to arms. Expect to see milk. \nIt’s part memoir\, part cultural commentary\, exploring the mixed messages\, societal pressures\, and emotional contradictions around infant feeding. \nIt gives voice to mothers whose stories are rarely told\, from those shamed for feeding in public to those struggling in private. \nAt its heart is a collection of real feeding paraphernalia and personal stories donated by mothers across the UK\, a living archive of care\, chaos\, and resistance. \nThere will be a special guest appearance from Bristol’s own BYOB (Bring Your Own Baby) Choir \n

SUMMARY:Up Down Big Man - The Weston Studio
DESCRIPTION:  \nThere comes a time in every young man’s life when he has to leave home. For Matty\, it’s forty! \nHe really is a big man. But with his mother gone – and his Dad moving on\, what’s next for Matty? He needs support\, but what is the best form of care for him? How can he be independent and safe? \nAnd as he leaves the sanctuary of his house for the final time\, is there space in the boxes for his most treasured possession? \nFollowing the critical success of Up Down Boy (2012) and Up Down Man (2016)\, this standalone production is the third in a trilogy of plays inspired by the life story of the gifted and charismatic performer Nathan Bessell. In Up Down Big Man Nathan returns to play Matty in a play full of wit\, anarchy and heart.

SUMMARY:The Street Where You Live - Alma Tavern Theatre
DESCRIPTION:  \nSoul Cake Theatre is coming to the Alma Tavern Theatre this autumn with Andrzej Wawrowski’s The Street Where You Live. \nWawrowski – founder of Soul Cake Theatre – has teamed up with Adam Elms. The writer\, actor and poet has come on board as an associate artist. \nThe theatre company was set up in 2015 by Bristol based theatre creatives and has been staging edgy and entertaining theatre ever since. \n“Twitchy twitchy” \n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Street Where You Live\n\nBehind your neighbours’ curtains lurk six darkly comic twisted tales. Bizarre. Bittersweet. And bloody.Go on – take a peek. The bastard child of Coronation Street and Inside No. 9. From Soul Cake Theatre\, creators of Loop\, the 2025 sell-out comedy drama. \nFront Window \n“His socks – Paisley (Spiced Orange) – stand out in the darkness like two flaming beacons.” \nJane and Pru look out for their neighbours in the only way they know how. With binoculars and an Excel spreadsheet. \nMonster \n“I knew there was something wrong straight away. Those big eyes and fuck-off teeth. She has small eyes. And false teeth.” \nAfter what has happened to him\, Josh just wants to be alone. But the strange girl in the red cape has other ideas. \nThe Agency \n“You know\, for someone looking for good conversation\, I think you’re forgetting that involves actually speaking yourself.” \nKieran dips his toe back into the dating pool through a brand new agency. He’s got the flowers\, the chocolates\, the moussaka. What could possibly go wrong? \nStrangers. On a Train. \n“I’m not interested in whether we met at Penelope’s party—whether it was outside the toilet—inside the drawing room—or on top of the breakfast bar. Because we didn’t.” \nLisa struggles with the painful memory of a brief encounter. And a power ballad no one deserves. \nMother Lode \n“She ate my Twirl. She did… I’d been looking forward to that Twirl for weeks – weeks\, it had been in my thoughts.” \nBarry and his mother have barely set foot outside their house in three years and that’s just how they like it. But are cracks in their relationship beginning to show? \nWe Came Upon The Midnight Clear \n“You don’t mind—do you? – if Abigail shares something with us? Won’t take long. Then you can get back to your telly and your mince pies!” \nCarol singers Gemma and Abigail have always worn their hearts on their sleeves. So when they go down a wrong path – a very wrong path – they insist you hear all about it. \n

SUMMARY:The Dying Wish - Kelvin Players
DESCRIPTION:Paul has been sentenced to death\, for reasons he isn’t fully certain of. Two executioners supervise\, as he awaits the judgement of the attorney’s appeals\, which seem to involve an increasingly complex system of bribery and a tangle of fresh accusations.  \nPaul has a final request\, a dying wish: to play the piano. \nThe bureaucracy of law and the macabre absurdity of capital punishment are held up to scrutiny in this surreal and incisive black comedy\, grounded by glimmers of humanity. \nAn original piece from Kelvin’s own Mauro Fazion\, The Dying Wish is an eclectic and deeply human examination of how we cope in the face of death\, uncertainty\, and corruption. \nWritten by Mauro Fazion\nDirected by Peter Spence

SUMMARY:Halloween Special Ballet to Not Necessarily Ballet Music Class - The Island
DESCRIPTION:South West Dance Theatre brings Halloween fun to The Island this October… \nIf you love Halloween and all things gothic and spooky\, it’s probably time you took a dive into some of classical ballet’s ghost laden\, wicked sorcerer riddled repertoire of horrors. This Halloween South West Dance Theatre are inviting everyone to get close up and personal with these iconic dances. \n“There’s a lot of choice when looking for gothic and spooky classical ballets\,” says South West Dance Theatre director Anna Davis. “Think of the storyline of Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride and its ballet twin in Les Sylphides\, then there’s the evil Rothbart and his Black Swan daughter in Swan Lake – the archetypal goth duo – not to mention the undead spirits of jilted brides dancing their former loves to death in Giselle. It’s fabulously macabre!” \nWith this in mind\, the last Friday before Halloween\, South West Dance Theatre will be inviting everyone – whether it’s their first pas de bourree or a nostalgic tip toe back to a former love – to try out snippets of the iconic choreography in these ballets both original classic and Bourne again. There will be the usual class exercises to warm up the body and to help newbies get their arms and legs round some of the steps\, all paced for a range of abilities so that you can work with where your brain and body are that day. There will even be a lead to follow for under 16s. \nThat’s right\, while our Friday morning class is usually for age 16+\, since it is Halloween and half term we will be welcoming grown ups to bring their under 16s too so that they can also have a go at the ballet exercises\, and maybe even devise their own Halloween choreography if that way inclined. There will also be a little break out space at one end of the studio for light spooky arts and crafts pitched at school age and above\, in case there are some little people ready for a different sort of diversion before the grown ups are finished. \nFancy dress optional but strongly encouraged!

SUMMARY:Running With Scissors - Alma Tavern Theatre
DESCRIPTION:An exploration of the weird\, wild and wonderful world of women surgeons will be coming to the Alma Tavern Theatre this autumn. \nRunning With Scissors is solo show written and performed by Ronnie Conboy. She’s a storyteller\, actor – and former orthopaedic surgeon who worked in the NHS for 35 years. \nThe show brings together her love of storytelling and performance with the career which she says shaped her life. \nRunning With Scissors will bring audiences lesser known true stories about women surgeons who made medical history. The brave ones\, the bold ones and the radical ones. \nAlong with personal reflections from contemporary surgery and plenty of dark humour\, there will be historical true stories. Expect tales of cross-dressers defying the law\, criminals and radical change-makers who went ahead and picked up a scalpel when society told them not to. \n It’s a celebration of the defiant spirit of the women who carved out a place in history. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Wider society\, and women surgeons themselves\, are led to believe that we are somehow an exception\, isolated in a world belonging to men\,” Ronnie Conboy says. \n“But there is a long and honourable tradition of women healers\, from our earliest beginnings to the present day. I want to reclaim that heritage\, to showcase our role models\, and share the stories of the fascinating\, courageous and frankly\, sometimes quite wild women who have shaped our history.” \n  \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:The journey of parenthood is a magical and maddening one so what better way to cope with it than through stand-up comedy! \nAftermirth is an adult comedy club that you can bring your baby to. \nEach month we’ll have 3 top circuit comedians delivering their usual club routines so the material is mature and sweary with the odd birth story flash back….  The only difference is it’s during the day. \nBabies under 1 year are welcome\, but please don’t bring older toddlers because they tend to heckle! \nThe gig is also open to parents\, Aunts\, Uncles\, Grans\, carers\, in fact anyone who needs some daytime comedy and doesn’t mind some cute babies in attendance.

SUMMARY:REVOLT! - The Wardrobe Theatre
DESCRIPTION:REVOLT! is a double header of radical history and renegade ramblings from Pete the Temp & Doug Francisco \nTwo of Bristol’s most gloriously unorthodox performers join forces for an evening of radical history\, psychedelic Romanticism\, circus confessionals and backstage madness. \nPoet\, performer and storyteller Pete the Temp and legendary Bristol ringmaster\, clown and circus impresario Doug Francisco journey from the revolutionary ferment of the 1790s to the seedy underbelly of modern cabaret. \nROMANTICS\, MYSTICS & REVOLUTIONARIES\nPete the Temp \nWhat did Bristol’s radical past have to say about the future? \nRomantics\, Mystics & Revolutionaries is a wild ride through Bristolian riot\, anti-slavery\, mysticism and psychedelics\, told through the lives and ideas of two renegade poets: Samuel Taylor Coleridge and William Wordsworth. \nThe Romantic movement was\, in part\, a revolt against industrialisation and the mechanisation of the soul. But what might its dreams of renewal\, imagination and human freedom offer an age of ecological crisis\, technological acceleration and despair? \nPart storytelling stage-show\, part performance lecture\, Pete the Temp unfolds a journey of music\, comedy and lyricism — a collision of scholarship and live entertainment. \nExpect reverence\, resistance and enchantment from a time of slavery and war. \n  \nFROM DOUG TIL DAW\nDoug Francisco \nDoug went to Stonehenge Free Festival when he was 15 and has literally only just got back. \nFrom Doug Til Dawn is a rollercoaster of ramblings and reminiscences into the seedy underbelly of cabaret — and back again — from Bristol’s legendary Red Rebel Ringmaster\, clown and circus impresario. \nWitness the psycho-dramas\, internal dialogues and multiphrenic mutterings of a life lived backstage: a soul striving to shine divine beneath the shadow of the great machine\, who has finally decided it’s time to have a serious word with himselves. \nTwo performers. Two journeys. One night of revolt. \n

SUMMARY:Silly Serious Sessions - The Elephant House
DESCRIPTION:Silly Serious Sessions is a weekly space for anyone who wants to express their creativity and imagination through movement and voice. The sessions offer a safe space for being playful and silly together – to be our weird wonderful selves in the spirit of playfulness! \n\n\nWhat to expect?\nEach session will be a mix of physical theatre games and exercises\, dance improvisation\, expressive art and playing creatively with voice. Expect lots of moving\, creating nonsense worlds and nonsense sounds and soundscapes – drawing from and soaring on our personal and collective imagination. \nWe will start each session with warm up games\, dive deeper into play with a few longer exercises and finish with a grounding close. No previous experience is required\, only a willingness to move and give it a go. This is a good space for someone dipping their toe into physical theater for the first time and a nice playfield for someone who has done it before. \nAbout the facilitator:\nHi I’m Nina! I’ve got naughty elves inside my heart and I would love to share their joy and mischief with you! I also wish to share my inspirations and experience I gained in my training in contemporary dance\, physical theatre\, street theatre\, music and expressive art\, and invite all those naughty elves inside you to come out and play! \nDisclaimer:\nThis is a group-based workshop — most games don’t work with just a couple of people. A group of minimum 4 people is required to run each session. In case we’re less than that on Thursday morning\, I will email everyone booked with the option of refund or a spot the following week. \nA note on moving: sessions involve continuous standing and full-body movement\, including some floor work. If you have any questions about whether this is accessible for you\, please reach out to me before booking: sillyserioussessions@proton.me. \nIf money is tight but you would like to come\, please reach out and we will find a way. \nAny questions? Just send me a quick email: sillyserioussessions@proton.me. \nVenue: The elephant house\, 1 Dean Street\, Bedminster\, BS3 1BG. \nTimes: 19.00 to 20.30. \nDates in 2026 \nSeptember: 24 \nOctober: 01\, 08\, 15\, 22 \nNovember 05\, 12\, 19\, 26 \nDecember: 03\, 10\, 17 \nA bundle of more tickets is also available which then reduces the cost per session to 10 pounds\, please email me if you would like to purchase a bundle. \n\nEntry Requirements: 18+
