DESCRIPTION:Frederick Douglas\, escaped slave and leading abolitionist has arrived in Bristol in 1846 as part of a speaking tour of the UK. \nAs is Bristol’s reputation\, West Country campaigners for the abolition of slavery have become noted internationally for taking action. \nHowever\, with Douglass’ arrival tensions grow between those who believe in radical direct action and those who favour more moderate approaches. \nCaught between his political commitments as well as his personal life\, Douglass finds his own happiness could tear apart the very movement he leads. \nThe Ocean Can Be A Bridge is a new play co-written by Richard Bradbury and Dave Samuels. Dave was born and grew up in Bristol. His father Norman Samuels led the famous Bristol Bus Boycott in 1963. \n

DESCRIPTION:Silly Serious Sessions is a weekly space for anyone who wants to express their creativity and imagination through movement and voice. The sessions offer a safe space for being playful and silly together – to be our weird wonderful selves in the spirit of playfulness! \n\n\nWhat to expect?\nEach session will be a mix of physical theatre games and exercises\, dance improvisation\, expressive art and playing creatively with voice. Expect lots of moving\, creating nonsense worlds and nonsense sounds and soundscapes – drawing from and soaring on our personal and collective imagination. \nWe will start each session with warm up games\, dive deeper into play with a few longer exercises and finish with a grounding close. No previous experience is required\, only a willingness to move and give it a go. This is a good space for someone dipping their toe into physical theater for the first time and a nice playfield for someone who has done it before. \nAbout the facilitator:\nHi I’m Nina! I’ve got naughty elves inside my heart and I would love to share their joy and mischief with you! I also wish to share my inspirations and experience I gained in my training in contemporary dance\, physical theatre\, street theatre\, music and expressive art\, and invite all those naughty elves inside you to come out and play! \nDisclaimer:\nThis is a group-based workshop — most games don’t work with just a couple of people. A group of minimum 4 people is required to run each session. SUMMARY:The Kate Bush Song Book - Tobacco Factory Theatres
DESCRIPTION:Cloudbusting have been touring theatres and music venues across the UK and Europe since 2012\, exploring the intricacies and nuance of Kate’s stunning albums. Along the way\, many of those complex and at times powerful arrangements have demanded every ounce of musicality and virtuosity that the band could muster – but at more reflective moments\, the true essence of Kate’s imaginative concepts have come to life with simply the voice and piano \nIt’s these jewels of the song-writing craft that the ‘Song Book’ ensemble now performs – with Matthew Bowers at the piano and Dave Roberts on bass backing the hauntingly beautiful vocals of Mandy Watson. \nThe Song Book repertoire features stunning arrangements of some lesser-known tracks as well as many of the hits – including Wuthering Heights\, Babooshka\, Hounds of Love and Cloudbusting. But it’s perhaps the clarity of those piano-based tracks such as This Woman’s Work\, Moments of Pleasure and The Man with the Child in His Eyes that dazzle most with their sheer complexity and pure lyrical invention. \nMany of Kate’s original collaborators have been inspired to join Cloudbusting for stage performances – drummer Preston Heyman and dancer Stewart Avon Arnold\, as well as bass player Del Palmer\, who has also been an avid supporter of the ‘Song Book’ shows. \nWith material from across Kate’s 45 year career\, interspersed with personal reflections and insights to many of the songs from Mandy\, Matthew and Dave\, don’t miss your chance to join them for a magical evening in appreciation of ‘this woman’s work’.

The sessions offer a safe space for being playful and silly together – to be our weird wonderful selves in the spirit of playfulness! \n\n\nWhat to expect?\nEach session will be a mix of physical theatre games and exercises\, dance improvisation\, expressive art and playing creatively with voice. Expect lots of moving\, creating nonsense worlds and nonsense sounds and soundscapes – drawing from and soaring on our personal and collective imagination. \nWe will start each session with warm up games\, dive deeper into play with a few longer exercises and finish with a grounding close. No previous experience is required\, only a willingness to move and give it a go. This is a good space for someone dipping their toe into physical theater for the first time and a nice playfield for someone who has done it before. \nAbout the facilitator:\nHi I’m Nina! I’ve got naughty elves inside my heart and I would love to share their joy and mischief with you! DESCRIPTION:The journey of parenthood is a magical and maddening one so what better way to cope with it than through stand-up comedy! \nAftermirth is an adult comedy club that you can bring your baby to. \nEach month we’ll have 3 top circuit comedians delivering their usual club routines so the material is mature and sweary with the odd birth story flash back….  The only difference is it’s during the day. \nBabies under 1 year are welcome\, but please don’t bring older toddlers because they tend to heckle! \nThe gig is also open to parents\, Aunts\, Uncles\, Grans\, carers\, in fact anyone who needs some daytime comedy and doesn’t mind some cute babies in attendance.

SUMMARY:Silly Serious Sessions - The Elephant House
DESCRIPTION:Silly Serious Sessions is a weekly space for anyone who wants to express their creativity and imagination through movement and voice. The sessions offer a safe space for being playful and silly together – to be our weird wonderful selves in the spirit of playfulness! \n\n\nWhat to expect?\nEach session will be a mix of physical theatre games and exercises\, dance improvisation\, expressive art and playing creatively with voice. Expect lots of moving\, creating nonsense worlds and nonsense sounds and soundscapes – drawing from and soaring on our personal and collective imagination. \nWe will start each session with warm up games\, dive deeper into play with a few longer exercises and finish with a grounding close. No previous experience is required\, only a willingness to move and give it a go. This is a good space for someone dipping their toe into physical theater for the first time and a nice playfield for someone who has done it before. \nAbout the facilitator:\nHi I’m Nina! I’ve got naughty elves inside my heart and I would love to share their joy and mischief with you! I also wish to share my inspirations and experience I gained in my training in contemporary dance\, physical theatre\, street theatre\, music and expressive art\, and invite all those naughty elves inside you to come out and play! \nDisclaimer:\nThis is a group-based workshop — most games don’t work with just a couple of people. A group of minimum 4 people is required to run each session. In case we’re less than that on Thursday morning\, I will email everyone booked with the option of refund or a spot the following week. \nA note on moving: sessions involve continuous standing and full-body movement\, including some floor work.
