SUMMARY:Codetta - Blakehay Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Coming to the Blakehay Theatre in Weston Super Mare this month is Codetta.\n \nShe is a 12 year old girl. Her favourite band is The Daffodils\, her best friend is called \nSuzie\, and she is searching for her lost toy\, Pig. But suddenly\, everything feels different\, and \nthe world through Codetta’s eyes begins to change. \nWithout warning she is experiencing strange sexual awakenings\, having arguments with her\nmother and second guessing her best friend in the whole wide world. The sureness of \nchildhood is slipping away\, in its place\, the certainty of the end of the world is looming. \nCodetta didn’t plan on the apocalypse coming so soon. But here she is\, having to let go of\nthe things she loves in order to make it out alive. Luckily\, she has The Daffodils. Who\, in all \ntheir glamour and glory\, are always there for Codetta. With advice\, songs\, and only some \nscandals\, they are her Gods. When Codetta has no one\, she has The Daffodils. \nThis exhilarating show is drenched in 2010s nostalgia\, glittering pop\, and sharpness.\n\nKismet draws on their own personal experiences of girlhood to create a fantastical\, musical\nworld that takes the coming-of-age genre of spin. Using original music\, movement\, and \nstorytelling\, Kismet deftly portrays both the magical imagination and terrifying spirals of \nCodetta’s mind. This show is emotional\, contemporary\, and restless; the result of our \nobsession with endings\, the intensity of being young and the boom of female pop. We hope \nthat Codetta will stay with you for a long\, long time. \nSo grab your hairbrush\, slam your bedroom door\, and hit play on the pop renaissance. \nCodetta is proudly supported by The Wardrobe Ensemble and Bristol School of Acting.

SUMMARY:Ave Maria! - Bristol Improve Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Bristol-based Two Birds Theatre Company bring their comedy drama Ave Maria! to Bristol Improv Theatre this June. \nThe show delves into themes of faith and the struggle of choosing between who you are and what you believe. \n‘Father’ Julian of the parish of Norwich spends her days making up Latin liturgy\, flirting with members of the aristocracy\, and above all maintaining her carefully crafted persona as a male priest in the year of our Lord 1296 AD. \nWhen she agrees to perform an illicit marriage between Marius\, the newly minted Duke of Norfolk\, and his bride Adela (who Julian happens to be romancing)\, the arrival of Marius’ displeased and probing uncle Richard threatens her disguise. \nJulian is forced to seek an authority which will make her invincible and accepts the newly opened role of bishop. But as rumours abound\, nuns end up where they shouldn’t be\, and faith collides with fealty\, Julian is left to consider who she is – and what she believes.

SUMMARY:Million Dollar Quartet - Barn Theatre Cirencester
DESCRIPTION:Darren Day stars in Million Dollar Quartet\nThe Barn Theatre in Cirencester has announced that Darren Day will be starring as Sam Phillips in Million Dollar Quartet this summer. \nThe show was inspired by Elvis Presley\, Johnny Cash\, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins. \nIt first played at Barn Theatre in 2022 and is returning to the stage due to overwhelming public demand. \nThe show has a book by Colin Escott and Floyd Mutrux. This production will be directed by Jonathan O’Boyle. \nFurther casting and creatives will be announced shortly. \nIt’s set on the night of 04 December 1956. The four men who walked into a recording studio in Memphis that night went on to shape rock’n’roll music\, changing the direction of popular music forever. \nMillion Dollar Quartet includes the classic songs Blue Suede Shoes\, Fever\, Walk The Line\, Hound Dog. \n \nDarren Day’s musical theatre resume is extensive\, following after winning Opportunity Knocks back in the 80s. \n“I genuinely couldn’t think of more perfect casting\, ” Barn Theatre’s CEO and Artistic Director Iwan Lewis says. \n“Sam Phillips is an iconic figure who played such a pivotal role in shaping the music industry\, and to have this role played by Darren Day\, who has himself taken on some of the most defining roles in musical theatre\, feels incredibly fitting. Our audiences at the Barn are in for a real treat.” \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Superfan - Alma Tavern Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Iris\, Molly\, Suzy and Dorothy are four thirteen girls who have formed an obsessive fan club around heartthrob movie star Paul Chamalordi. They’d rather spend their time running top fanpage @chamalordiupdates or bidding on a strand of his hair on Ebay than go talk to gross boys their age. \nWhen they win a fan competition to go to Los Angeles and meet their idol\, it seems like a miraculous bid for their dreams to come true. But ugly cracks come to the surface – in their idol\, in their relationship to one another and in the stories they have built around love\, admiration and girlhood. \nThe sharp comedy explores the obsessive nature of girlhood\, fandom culture and the painful experience of growing up.
