SUMMARY:Up Down Big Man - The Weston Studio
DESCRIPTION:  \nThere comes a time in every young man’s life when he has to leave home. For Matty\, it’s forty! \nHe really is a big man. But with his mother gone – and his Dad moving on\, what’s next for Matty? He needs support\, but what is the best form of care for him? How can he be independent and safe? \nAnd as he leaves the sanctuary of his house for the final time\, is there space in the boxes for his most treasured possession? \nFollowing the critical success of Up Down Boy (2012) and Up Down Man (2016)\, this standalone production is the third in a trilogy of plays inspired by the life story of the gifted and charismatic performer Nathan Bessell. In Up Down Big Man Nathan returns to play Matty in a play full of wit\, anarchy and heart.

SUMMARY:The Street Where You Live - Alma Tavern Theatre
DESCRIPTION:  \nSoul Cake Theatre is coming to the Alma Tavern Theatre this autumn with Andrzej Wawrowski’s The Street Where You Live. \nWawrowski – founder of Soul Cake Theatre – has teamed up with Adam Elms. The writer\, actor and poet has come on board as an associate artist. \nThe theatre company was set up in 2015 by Bristol based theatre creatives and has been staging edgy and entertaining theatre ever since. \n“Twitchy twitchy” \n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Street Where You Live\n\nBehind your neighbours’ curtains lurk six darkly comic twisted tales. Bizarre. Bittersweet. And bloody.Go on – take a peek. The bastard child of Coronation Street and Inside No. 9. From Soul Cake Theatre\, creators of Loop\, the 2025 sell-out comedy drama. \nFront Window \n“His socks – Paisley (Spiced Orange) – stand out in the darkness like two flaming beacons.” \nJane and Pru look out for their neighbours in the only way they know how. With binoculars and an Excel spreadsheet. \nMonster \n“I knew there was something wrong straight away. Those big eyes and fuck-off teeth. She has small eyes. And false teeth.” \nAfter what has happened to him\, Josh just wants to be alone. But the strange girl in the red cape has other ideas. \nThe Agency \n“You know\, for someone looking for good conversation\, I think you’re forgetting that involves actually speaking yourself.” \nKieran dips his toe back into the dating pool through a brand new agency. He’s got the flowers\, the chocolates\, the moussaka. What could possibly go wrong? \nStrangers. On a Train. \n“I’m not interested in whether we met at Penelope’s party—whether it was outside the toilet—inside the drawing room—or on top of the breakfast bar. Because we didn’t.” \nLisa struggles with the painful memory of a brief encounter. And a power ballad no one deserves. \nMother Lode \n“She ate my Twirl. She did… I’d been looking forward to that Twirl for weeks – weeks\, it had been in my thoughts.” \nBarry and his mother have barely set foot outside their house in three years and that’s just how they like it. But are cracks in their relationship beginning to show? \nWe Came Upon The Midnight Clear \n“You don’t mind—do you? – if Abigail shares something with us? Won’t take long. Then you can get back to your telly and your mince pies!” \nCarol singers Gemma and Abigail have always worn their hearts on their sleeves. So when they go down a wrong path – a very wrong path – they insist you hear all about it. \n

SUMMARY:The Dying Wish - Kelvin Players
DESCRIPTION:Paul has been sentenced to death\, for reasons he isn’t fully certain of. Two executioners supervise\, as he awaits the judgement of the attorney’s appeals\, which seem to involve an increasingly complex system of bribery and a tangle of fresh accusations.  \nPaul has a final request\, a dying wish: to play the piano. \nThe bureaucracy of law and the macabre absurdity of capital punishment are held up to scrutiny in this surreal and incisive black comedy\, grounded by glimmers of humanity. \nAn original piece from Kelvin’s own Mauro Fazion\, The Dying Wish is an eclectic and deeply human examination of how we cope in the face of death\, uncertainty\, and corruption. \nWritten by Mauro Fazion\nDirected by Peter Spence

SUMMARY:Careless Talk - Alma Tavern Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Do you know who the only British person to be tried for treason in the Second World War was? \nNeither did we. \nBut\, here comes Careless Talk so you can find out all about Mabel Daley Bancroft. \nThis warm and funny show is written and performed by Ali Williams\, based on the novel Careless Talk by James Friel. \nWas Mabel a collaborator?  A visionary? Or just an outsider?  Was she the victim of a witch hunt? Or the victim of her own uncompromising nature? \nIt’s all high treason on Sandown Beach in this comedy drama\, completely based on a true story. \nCareless talk is frequently hilarious as well as moving\, with themes of the justice system\, who it protects and why? \n\n\n\n  \n

SUMMARY:Running With Scissors - Alma Tavern Theatre
DESCRIPTION:An exploration of the weird\, wild and wonderful world of women surgeons will be coming to the Alma Tavern Theatre this autumn. \nRunning With Scissors is solo show written and performed by Ronnie Conboy. She’s a storyteller\, actor – and former orthopaedic surgeon who worked in the NHS for 35 years. \nThe show brings together her love of storytelling and performance with the career which she says shaped her life. \nRunning With Scissors will bring audiences lesser known true stories about women surgeons who made medical history. The brave ones\, the bold ones and the radical ones. \nAlong with personal reflections from contemporary surgery and plenty of dark humour\, there will be historical true stories. Expect tales of cross-dressers defying the law\, criminals and radical change-makers who went ahead and picked up a scalpel when society told them not to. \n It’s a celebration of the defiant spirit of the women who carved out a place in history. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Wider society\, and women surgeons themselves\, are led to believe that we are somehow an exception\, isolated in a world belonging to men\,” Ronnie Conboy says. \n“But there is a long and honourable tradition of women healers\, from our earliest beginnings to the present day. I want to reclaim that heritage\, to showcase our role models\, and share the stories of the fascinating\, courageous and frankly\, sometimes quite wild women who have shaped our history.” \n  \n  \n

With their salaries and sanity on the line\, they must shift 66 cars by Monday or face the wrath of their overlord boss\, Terry. \nThe show is an absurd\, all-American devised comedy combining clowning\, physical theatre\, and original music. Initially inspired by This American Life’s podcast episode ‘129 Cars’\, Terry’s takes audiences on a ride through the silly\, surreal\, and disturbing reaches of US capitalism\, revealing the absurdity and madness rumbling under the gleaming bonnet of the American Dream. \nBRILLIG creates entertaining\, virtuosic\, big-hearted original work which uses clowning and physical theatre to provoke personal and political reflection.

SUMMARY:REVOLT! - The Wardrobe Theatre
DESCRIPTION:REVOLT! is a double header of radical history and renegade ramblings from Pete the Temp & Doug Francisco \nTwo of Bristol’s most gloriously unorthodox performers join forces for an evening of radical history\, psychedelic Romanticism\, circus confessionals and backstage madness. \nPoet\, performer and storyteller Pete the Temp and legendary Bristol ringmaster\, clown and circus impresario Doug Francisco journey from the revolutionary ferment of the 1790s to the seedy underbelly of modern cabaret. \nROMANTICS\, MYSTICS & REVOLUTIONARIES\nPete the Temp \nWhat did Bristol’s radical past have to say about the future? \nRomantics\, Mystics & Revolutionaries is a wild ride through Bristolian riot\, anti-slavery\, mysticism and psychedelics\, told through the lives and ideas of two renegade poets: Samuel Taylor Coleridge and William Wordsworth. \nThe Romantic movement was\, in part\, a revolt against industrialisation and the mechanisation of the soul. But what might its dreams of renewal\, imagination and human freedom offer an age of ecological crisis\, technological acceleration and despair? \nPart storytelling stage-show\, part performance lecture\, Pete the Temp unfolds a journey of music\, comedy and lyricism — a collision of scholarship and live entertainment. \nExpect reverence\, resistance and enchantment from a time of slavery and war. \n  \nFROM DOUG TIL DAW\nDoug Francisco \nDoug went to Stonehenge Free Festival when he was 15 and has literally only just got back. \nFrom Doug Til Dawn is a rollercoaster of ramblings and reminiscences into the seedy underbelly of cabaret — and back again — from Bristol’s legendary Red Rebel Ringmaster\, clown and circus impresario. \nWitness the psycho-dramas\, internal dialogues and multiphrenic mutterings of a life lived backstage: a soul striving to shine divine beneath the shadow of the great machine\, who has finally decided it’s time to have a serious word with himselves. \nTwo performers. Two journeys. One night of revolt. \n

Of a heart that must break open to be transformed. \nStep into Dickensian Bristol on Christmas Eve. Frost on the cobbles. Bells in the cold air. SUMMARY:Goldilock\, Stock & Three Smoking Bears - The Wardrobe Theatre
DESCRIPTION:This Christmas\, The Wardrobe Theatre is giddy to bring back one of our all-time favourite productions. As we celebrate 10 years of The Wardrobe Theatre in Old Market\, we’re going back to where it all began with the first show ever to be performed here. Get ready for an ill-fated fusion of the classic porridge-thieving fairy tale with 1998’s cult cockney caper to create something new\, exciting\, smart and very\, very funny. \nThe silver-tongued Goldilock can see that her days of selling moody goods on the cobbled streets of East End London are numbered. But when circumstances leave her on the run from a pack of bears and badly indebted to a notorious gangster\, will our young heroine be able to raise the needed ‘bees and honey’ in time and avoid doing porridge?
