SUMMARY:Housemates - Bristol Old Vic
DESCRIPTION:Housemates is by Hijinx and in association with Sherman Theatre. \nIn the 1970s\, Alan\, a young man with Down’s syndrome\, crashed into the life of student Jim. Alan had lived as a resident in a Cardiff Hospital since childhood; all he wanted was to live in a house and be in a band. Jim wanted to make a difference in the world\, but didn’t know how. Together with their friends\, they embarked on an experiment that transformed how things were done\, how people were treated and who got to tell you how to live. This was the beginning of the end of institutionalised care and the birth of Supported Living. Performed by a cast of neurodivergent and neurotypical actor-musicians\, Housemates packs a punch and touches the heart.

SUMMARY:Merrily We Roll Along - Bristol Old Vic
DESCRIPTION:The Bristol School of Acting will be getting a summer run in the main house of Bristol Old Vic with their production Merrily We Roll Along. \nIt’s the drama school’s biggest production so far and the first time the school has staged a production on the main stage of Bristol Old Vic. \nWith a cast of 20 and on-stage band of 12 musicians from West End productions – including choreography by Rachael Nanyonjo – this promises to be a stellar show. \nHow did you get to be here? \nWhat was the moment? \nMerrily We Roll Along answers those questions in reverse\, moving backwards in time from 1976 to the hopeful beginnings of 1957\, tracing the fractured relationship between composer Franklin Shepard and his lifelong friends\, Mary and Charley – and the choices that shaped their lives. \nAs the years unwind\, a heartbreaking but hope-filled story is brought to life through an unforgettable Sondheim score\, including Old Friends\, Now You Know\, and Not a Day Goes By.
