SUMMARY:Goldilock\, Stock & Three Smoking Bears - The Wardrobe Theatre
DESCRIPTION:This Christmas\, The Wardrobe Theatre is giddy to bring back one of our all-time favourite productions. As we celebrate 10 years of The Wardrobe Theatre in Old Market\, we’re going back to where it all began with the first show ever to be performed here. Get ready for an ill-fated fusion of the classic porridge-thieving fairy tale with 1998’s cult cockney caper to create something new\, exciting\, smart and very\, very funny. \nThe silver-tongued Goldilock can see that her days of selling moody goods on the cobbled streets of East End London are numbered. But when circumstances leave her on the run from a pack of bears and badly indebted to a notorious gangster\, will our young heroine be able to raise the needed ‘bees and honey’ in time and avoid doing porridge?

SUMMARY:Isle of Glass - The Weston Studio
DESCRIPTION:‘A refuge for the lost\, a land of eternal youth\, a place where time moves differently’ \nIt’s August on the Somerset levels\, just outside of Glastonbury. It’s hot and the days are endless. \nThis is the Land of the Gods. Conducting moon beams in Morrisons’ car park. Cleaning auras on the high street. \nOnce a site of religious pilgrimage – now\, a counter cultural haven. Every summer\, the lost wash up and the town swells. \nAt the edge of it all\, a group of young people grow up. Building their own utopia\, they create traditions of their own so that they don’t feel alone. \nBut the water is rising. \nFollowing the same group of friends at different moments in time\, this is a rural coming-of-age story. It’s a story about fate and the lives we choose. It’s a story of hope and loss and the friendships that sustain us. \nIsle of Glass is the latest show from Bristol Old Vic’s Young Company\, written and directed by Maddie Wakeling.

SUMMARY:Uncle Vanya - Bristol Old Vic
DESCRIPTION:Bristol Old Vic’s RYTDS Associate Artistic Director Rikki Henry brings a thrilling new vision to Chekhov’s tragi-comic masterpiece Uncle Vanya\, in an English version by David Lan and in co-production with Stratford East. \n“I’ve let my life slip away when all these years I could have had everything – which now I can’t because I’m forty-seven!” \nRelocated to a rundown office: dripping water cooler\, towering filing cabinets and reams upon reams of paper. Time stands still. Windows 95 chimes. The phone rings\, and rings\, and rings. \nIn the midst of a midlife crisis\, Vanya\, his dedicated niece Sonya and the local doctor Astrov are visited by Alexander\, the widower of Vanya’s late sister and Sonya’s father\, and his glamorous new wife Yelena. Vanya has spent years financing their lavish city lifestyle\, only for Alexander to arrive with the surprise declaration that he intends to sell the business. \nWhile Vanya and Astrov appear to fall under Yelena’s charms\, Sonya is less convinced. Polite facades quickly crumble and long-repressed\, vodka-fuelled confessions of love have devastating consequences. \nBristol Old Vic Associate Artistic Director Rikki Henry’s wonderfully creative concept won plaudits at Theater Dortmund in 2023. Now\, in an entirely new English language production and using David Lan’s “notably sharp\, bright translation” (The Times)\, Chekhov’s classic is brought to darkly witty life once more. \nAre we all condemned to live the lives we started\, or is fundamental change possible?

SUMMARY:The Butterfly Project - The Weston Studio
DESCRIPTION:“If they’re going to fetishise me\, I’m going to do it right back.” \nA Japanese stewardess and a British pilot walk onto a plane. 30 years later\, their son Joey is thinking of ending things with his Italian boyfriend. \nTurning to his parents’ interracial relationship for guidance\, he embarks on a journey to connect with his roots. \nBut as Joey learns more about his family\, a pattern begins to emerge: the notes of Puccini’s Madama Butterfly underscore a century of Asian misrepresentation\, orientalism\, and exoticisation. \nConnecting Milan to Nagasaki\, Hong Kong to London\, The Butterfly Project is an irreverent look at the stories that shape us\, whether we like it or not. \nOriginally produced by Undone Theatre\, presented by Kakilang and Undone Theatre\, The Butterfly Project is part of Kakilang’s 20th anniversary season\, touring across the UK in 2027.
