Jamie in the Cinema:
Hands up who went to see Everybody’s Talking about Jamie Encore in the cinemas last night.
Live theatre broadcasts and follow-up Encore screenings, brings high quality theatre across the country. This makes theatre truly accessible, both in practical terms and financial terms.
We first saw Everybody’s Talking About Jamie broadcast live into the Odeon in Bristol back in the summer of 2018. We loved it so much, we’ve been to see it in London’s West End some four times since, with another booking in February half term 2019.
There’s nothing about this show that doesn’t work. From the book, music and lyrics, direction, choreography, cast, acting and story, this a truly contemporary British musical that reflects real people and real lives to which people can relate.
Opera, ballet and the National Theatre is frequently streamed live into cinemas across the country, but less so musical theatre.
The success of the show’s cinema live broadcast and encores, proves that this is a brilliant way of more people being able to enjoy commercial theatre, access theatre and without impacting upon theatre ticket sales.
More musicals should consider doing this.
