Mother Tree By RoguePlay Theatre Comes To Circomedia Bristol

  • RoguePlay Theatre comes to Circomedia this month
  • The show includes a baby matinee

Rogueplay Theatre, will be debuting a new one-woman show at Circomedia this month – on International Women’s Day.

The aerial and physical theatre company are bringing Mother Tree, to Bristol. The show combines theatre, aerial silk and spoken word to explore motherhood, nature and maternal mental health.

Mother Tree is written and performed by the Artistic Director of Rogueplay Theatre – Kim Wildborne.

“During my sleepless nights, I kept a diary. A series of poetic scribblings,” she says.

“The show came from those very personal writings. Post-natal depression is not spoken about. Women get frightened to say anything in case it gets taken the wrong way and nobody tells you how hard it will be until it happens. For all these reasons, I wrote this show. But it isn’t just about all the difficult stuff. It counterbalances that with the beauty of having children and the amazing life experiences it brings.”

As well as themes of motherhood, Kim says the show has ‘deep spiritual undertones’ which have been influenced by the work of Suzanne Simard – Professor of Forest Ecology at the University of British Columbia. The world-leading forest ecologist changed how people view trees. This is reflected within Motherhood, with Kim realising that becoming a mother interconnected her with nature.

The matinee performance on 10 March is particularly for new parents and carers with babes-in-arms.

“Being a mum of two myself, I understand that babies make noise, parents might need to stand up and move about and breastfeeding is an act that needs to happen anywhere anytime,” Kim says. “We want those with babies to feel empowered to come and see the show and we provide the matinee specifically for that reason.”

Mother Tree will be at Circomedia on 09 and 10 March – to include a baby matinee.

The show is aimed at audiences age 12 years upwards and runs at 75 minutes with no interval.
