New Shows Announced by Tobacco Factory Theatres
Booking now open with 20 per cent discount
Bristol audiences are in for a theatrical treat in the coming months. Tobacco Factory Theatres has announced three brand new shows for its south Bristol venue.
All three shows are to be staged in the round in the main Factory Theatre. The programming has come after the theatre asked Bristolians what they actually wanted to watch.
Artistic Director of Tobacco Factory Theatres, Heidi Vaughan, explained further about how important it was for the venue to remain connected to its local community.
She said: “We have spent the last year listening to our audiences and we believe this new season of productions complements our wonderful programme of received work; in a way that is both contemporary and classical in its offer. Our mission is to connect our community; by listening and providing a diverse offer of artistic adventures, and that’s why, alongside our existing creative and community work, we are bringing opera and Shakespeare back in-house, to proudly sit alongside our flagship annual Christmas show to form a new season of theatre that is being made right here at TFT.”
The new shows include co-productions with Opera Project and New International Encounter (NIE).
The first of the three new shows will be The Marriage of Figaro, one of the most loved Mozart operas of all time. Audiences new to the opera will likely recognise the Che soave zeffiretto. If the name doesn’t ring bells, it was the piece of opera music used in that iconic scene of The Shawshank Redemption. Come along and finally find out what those two Italian ladies were actually singing about.
The co-production with Opera Project will see the show directed by Richard Studer and conducted by Jonathan Lyness.
The Marriage of Figaro will run from 02 – 12 October 2024.

The official start of the festive season isn’t go in Bristol until Tobacco Factory Theatres starts the run of its annual family Christmas show. This year will see the return of Hansel and Gretel in a co-production with NIE.
Artistic Director at NIE, Alex Byrne said the company was ‘really excited’ to be returning to Bristol for Christmas, with the theatre being one of the company’s ‘favourite’ venues to play.
Alex said: “We are really pleased to be able to say that the cast features some much loved Bristol based performers who people will recognise from previous NIE/TFT Christmas shows, and they will also perform a rich mix of original acoustic music in the show on double bass, saxophone, piano and more. Hansel & Gretel is a glorious mix of music, magic and joy, which we can’t wait to share with TFT audiences!”
Hansel and Gretel will be running at the theatre from 28 November 2024 – 12 January 2025.

With possibly the most famous stage direction of all time, The Winter’s Tale, will bring Shakespeare back to the theatre. Artistic Director Heidi Vaughan will be directing the new in-house production. It’s the first home-produced Shakespeare adaptation since the theatre’s cracking A Midsummer Night’s Dream in 2019.
The Winter’s Tale is a “wild and wonderful” piece of theatre, Vaughan says, “packed full of surprises.”
The Winter’s Tale will be at Tobacco Factory Theatres from 20 November – 29 March 2025.
