Nell! The Musical Premieres in Somerset

The brand new musical tells the true story of Eleanor Nell Gwyn

The premiere of a brand new musical will be taking place in a Somerset village this summer.

Nell! The Musical, has been co-created by Dominic Sandford and Bob Price. It’s being staged by Pudding Lane Productions in the beautiful grounds of Charlton House as part of its 300th anniversary this year.

The show tells the story of Eleanor Nell Gwyn. She was born in the slums of London during the Restoration period. Though there is little known about her childhood and teen years, it was her job as an orange seller at the Kings Theatre that propelled her to stardom, becoming one of the first comic actresses on the English stage – and the mistress of King Charles II of England.

Nell! The Musical is described as an ‘uplifting’ show. Bringing together live music, humour and drama, it explores her remarkable life, her ambition, her resilience and her relationship with the King.

Georgina Sweet as Nell Gwyn and Jordan Lee as King Charles II lead a full cast of 28.

Nell! The Musical takes place at Charlton House on 26 and 27 June 2026
