Bristol company back with new riotous comedy

Last Christmas, there was a haunting on North Street. This autumn, expect all of the drama and chaos to be found in the world of wrestling.

Bristol-based Gurt Productions are back and will be bringing WWG Gurtmania to the South Bristol theatre.

Swapping ghosts and ghouls for slams and suplexes, Gurt Productions will be slapping their hallmark comedy style on this new mockumentary show.

WWG Gurtmania is a love letter to the world of wrestling. It asks what demons lie within these wrestlers? Who will be the first to tap out? And who’s been stuffing their socks down their lycra?

During the show’s development, the company ran workshops with Bristol men to explore themes of masculinity, aggression and cross-generational male mentorship in sporting environments.

The final story is told through high energy physical comedy and hilarious characters.

Bristol remains at the heart of the show. The company are committed to celebrating the local Bristol community as well as putting working class stories at the heart of their productions. Their shows are always crafted with non-typical theatre audiences in mind.

Gurt Productions was formed by theatre makers Casey Lloyd, Benj Foster and Toby George, who came through Bristol Old Vic’s Made in Bristol programme.

“As a team of artists mostly from working class backgrounds, it was important to us to connect
with people who might not think that theatre is ‘for them’,” director Casey Lloyd, says.

“As wrestling is a unique blend of storytelling and sport, the show’s themes allowed us to connect with male voices that don’t typically go to the theatre and make sure that we’re representing those voices in the story we want to tell.”

WWG Gurtmania will be at Tobacco Factory Theatres 14 – 17 October 2026
