“Big-hearted” Christmas Show at South Bristol Theatre This Christmas
New Artistic Director of Tobacco Factory Theatres looking forward to Christmas season with brand new show
The first Christmas season for Tobacco Factory Theatres under the tenure of its brand new Artistic Director Heidi Vaughan, is fast approaching. It’s been all change at the Factory this year, with Bertel Martin also taking over as Chair of the Board this autumn.
The highly anticipated Christmas show is in safe hands. Heidi is an expert in creating and overseeing high quality theatre. She’s come to the South Bristol theatre from her role as Artistic Director of Travelling Light, in Bristol.
Previously to this, she has also worked for Kazzum, Oxford Playhouse and The Point in Eastleigh. Locally, she has also been an Associate Artist of the egg in Bath. She also has an international reputation for delivering projects with the British Council and Druid Theatre Company.
Back in Bristol, Heidi says she is ‘really looking forward’ to welcoming families through the door.
This year’s Christmas show is Oliver Twist. The brand new re-telling has been created by Olivier Award-winning Adam Peck. He’s a Bristol playwright with a solid history of writing brilliant shows, including smash-hit Cinderella: A Fairytale.
Seamas Carey, the multi-instrumentalist composer for the production, knows how to create the right atmosphere. He’s worked as a performer and musical director with companies including Kneehigh, Traveling Light, Bristol Old Vic and Sally Cookson.
Oliver Twist, will see Vaughan, Peck and Carey reunited for the first time since last year’s beautiful production of Belle and Sebastian at Bristol Old Vic.
“It’s a real delight to direct Oliver Twist. Dickens’ tales embody the warmth, joy and charity that are the essence of the festive spirit we wish to bring to our audiences,” Heidi says.
“It’s a pleasure to work with such an inventive and generous team to find ways to gift this much-loved 200-year-old story in unexpected and delightful new ways. I’m really looking forward to welcoming audiences to Oliver Twist as part of a TFT festive season with something for everyone. This is a bright, bold, big-hearted production – a true theatrical feast.”
Oliver Twist will be running at Tobacco Factory Theatres from 01 December 2023 to 21 January 2024
