BOVTS Stages Days of Significance This Spring
The play opens at The Station this weekend
Roy Williams’ play about the lives of young people affected by the Iraq conflict is being brought to the Bristol stage from this weekend.
It’s being staged by Bristol Old Vic Theatre School (BOVTS) for its Spring Season.
Director Natalie Simone takes the helm with design by Andrea Kilgour and Alexandra Hall.
In a conversation with Roy Williams, Natalie Simone said she was “excited by the challenge” of replicating the “electricity” between the characters on stage.
Days of Significance was originally an RSC-commissioned response by Williams to Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing.
It follows two young soldiers Ben and Jamie and their partners as they prepare for and take part in active service.
It tackles the cost of war on young and usually ill-prepared people in a head-on way.
Through three acts, it contrasts domestic and military violence and themes of prejudice, nationalism and revenge.
Natalie Simone and Roy Williams discuss the play in a Writer + Director Interview ahead of opening night.
Audiences are warned that the play is recommended for mature audiences. This is because it contains strong, often obscene language, explicit violence and mature subject matter.
Days of Significance will be at The Station 28 February – Saturday 07 March 2026
Friday 06 March will be a BSL-interpreted performance with Sherrie Eugene-Hart
