Bristol Improv Theatre Campaign Saves Venue

UK’s first dedicated improv theatre saved after successful fundraising campaign

Earlier this summer, the Bristol Improv Theatre faced the very real prospect of closing their doors for good this autumn.

The increased costs of running the venue as well as the cost of living crisis impacting audience spend saw the theatre facing closure in September.

Over the last few weeks, supporters came together to help the venue reach the needed target of £20,000 to allow them to continue through the winter.

Bristol Improv Theatre has recently become a charity, with aims to improve the accessibility of their building as well as expand its community work around the city.

The theatre is also working on its internal operations to ensure its future is sustainable in the long term.

During the Save The Bristol Improv Theatre campaign, nearly 300 individual donations were made, amounting to over £25,000. This included an anonymous £5,000 donation.

“It’s hard to express in words how relieved and grateful we are to have achieved our target, thanks to the support and generosity of so many people,” Kierann Shah, Artistic Director of the Bristol Improv Theatre said.

“There’s a tradition that’s common amongst improv performers of telling each other “got your back” before a show – no-one knows exactly what will happen so supporting each other is key. The experience of the fundraiser has shown that there is a community out there that has our back, and wants us to succeed. To everyone who has supported us in any way: we see you, we appreciate you, thank you for having our back!”
