Bristol Old Vic Forced To Reduce Staffing Costs

The theatre has announced a Voluntary Leavers Scheme is in place

Barely a week goes by without a cancellation, the threat of venue closure or more cuts being made in the arts and culture world.

Bristol Old Vic is now the latest organisation forced to reduce its costs to ‘protect’ its future.

The cuts will be affecting staff across the organisation, with a Voluntary Leavers Scheme now taking place.

Around 05 per cent of the theatre’s workforce needs to be cut to help the organisation ‘strengthen long-term resilience’.

Bristol Old Vic called the process affecting colleagues ‘difficult’ saying its ‘immediate priority’ was for the ‘welfare of the team’. It has promised to approach the situation with ‘care, transparency and support’.

Artistic Director of Bristol Old Vic, Nancy Medina said.“We will make a theatre which is for our whole community. Not a passive place but one of activism. Not one voice but many. We will ask questions of ourselves and of Bristol. We invite you to come on in and help us make this building sing with possibility.” 

Bristol Old Vic will be continuing to operate its autumn theatre programme and engagement activity as normal.
