Cary Grant Comes Home Festival Bristol

The event celebrating one of Bristol’s most famous boys starts this month

Bristol welcomes another Cary Grant Comes Home Festival this year. The event celebrates the life and work of Bristol boy Archibald Leach, who became known across the world as Cary Grant.

This year, the event will focus on Cary Grant the Acrobat. It will culminate in a gala evening performance at the Bristol Spiegeltent, to include live circus performance.

The festival will be screening eight Cary Grant films between 29 November and 01 December. The festival will also include live music, talks and themed cosplay.

“Grant is usually best remembered for his good looks, style, and charm,” festival founder and director Charlotte Crofts says.

“These qualities are very much on display in all the films we’re screening, but our programming choices also remind us of his deep connection to his roots – from watching action adventures and slapstick silents in local cinemas during his Bristol boyhood, to his daring decision to run away with a troupe of acrobats. With them, he learned tumbling, balance, timing and command of his body, which eventually helped him to create some of the finest physical performances in cinema history.”

The Cary Grant Comes Home Festival runs from 29 November – 01 December 2024

All screenings take place at Bristol Megascreen – in the Bristol Aquarium, except the closing night gala of To Catch a Thief, which will take place at the Bristol Spiegeltent.
