Circomedia Launches Crowdfunder
Bristol circus school Circomedia, has launched a Crowdfunder to ensure its historic building is able to stay open this winter.
The St. Paul’s Church – known informally as the Wedding Cake Church – has a heating system that is now more than 30 years old. It’s currently out of action and repairs can no longer be made.
This has left the arts organisation with a huge problem. Due to the nature of the poor insulation of the church building, heating costs have already exceeded £20k, with further price hikes expected.
Practitioners in physical and performing art forms such as circus, must have warm environments to train and perform in.
Circomedia was launched back in 1993 and took over St. Paul’s Church in 2004. The church was a disused building which the circus school brought back into life with support from landlords the Churches Conservation Trust.
The venue has gone on to become one of Bristol’s important cultural venues. It houses the training of children, young people and students. It hosts professional artists with an annual programme of events.
To continue running the circus school, Circomedia has launched a £10,000 Crowdfunder for urgent improvements. This will mean Circomedia can begin energy-efficiency works that will lower running costs and reduce heat loss. It will mean that in the future, the building will have a more sustainable heating system.
