Comic Opera Così Fan Tutte Runs in Bristol
One of Mozart’s opera favourites plays in Bristol next month
One of Mozarts much-loved operas will be hitting south Bristol next month.
Così fan tutte is a comic opera full of love and loyalty – including disguise – that is being staged as a co-production between Tobacco Factory Theatres and Opera Project.
The show follows hot on the heels of last year’s successful production The Marriage of Figaro.
The opera will replicate last year’s “intimacy” due to the nature of the Factory Theatre auditorium, Artistic Director of Tobacco Factory Theatres, Heidi Vaughan says.
“We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Opera Project, following last year’s unforgettable production of The Marriage of Figaro. Audiences were bowled over by the sheer scale and intimacy of the experience — over 20 professional performers and musicians brought Mozart’s work to life in the round, with a 12-piece orchestra and an exceptional cast of eight delivering astonishing vocal performances.”
Lorenzo da Ponte’s libretto will be performed in English, with a translation by Richard Studer.
Audiences are promised charm, warmth and energy with Mozart’s sharp wit and beautiful music.
Two young officers put their sweethearts’ faithfulness to the test with very unexpected results. Egged on by the cynical Don Alfonso and the spirited maid Despina, the pair assume new identities and attempt to seduce each other’s fiancées — setting in motion a riot of mistaken identities, romantic confusion and emotional chaos.
The Artistic Director of Opera Project, Richard Studer said he was looking forward to coming back to the south Bristol theatre.
“Returning to Tobacco Factory Theatres with Così Fan Tutte is a joy,” he says.
“The venue’s unique atmosphere enhances the immediacy and intimacy of opera, allowing us to connect deeply with our audience through Mozart’s exquisite music and Da Ponte’s clever libretto. Following on from last year’s Marriage of Figaro, this production continues our exploration of the Mozart–Da Ponte trilogy… and who knows where that might take us next?”
Cosí Fan Tutte will be at Tobacco Factory Theatres from 08 – 18 October 2025
BSL Interpreted Performance: Tuesday 14 October 2025 at 7pm
