Doctor Who Proms Royal Albert Hall 2024
Sell-out proms return after an 11 year absence
August bank holiday weekend saw the return of popular BBC Proms – the Doctor Who Proms – at the Royal Albert Hall.
The two performances – Prom 47 and Prom 48 – took place on Monday 26 August 2024.
The evening Prom was broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 with the filmed event due to be screened on TV during the Christmas period.
The well-curated programme featured music by both Segun Akinola and Murray Gold, with pieces spanning the time of the Ninth all the way through to the Fifteenth and companion Ruby Sunday.
The audience of thousands enthusiastically cheered and applauded throughout the performance, at times drowning out the beloved Catherine Tate, who was on brilliant form with her witty style.
Conductor Alastair King, threw a smile at the audience in the evening performance, ahead of launching into I Am The Doctor/Words Win Wars, accompanied with the footage of Eleventh Doctor Matt Smith and his rousing monologue from The Pandorica Opens.
Judging by the huge response from the audience, it was the biggest hit of the performance. It drew a range of monsters through the auditorium, delighting the audience as they made their way through.
The Royal Albert Hall is possibly the finest sound system in the world, making the Doctor Who Proms not just any other concert, but an experience.
It’s been a long time in its return. Hopefully it won’t stay away as long this time, because it’s an incredible performance, both in terms of the beauty of the music and it being a Must for Doctor Who fans.
