I Met All My Friends on Dating Apps by Jess Andrews at Alma Tavern Theatre

Expect disastrous dates and ‘questionable’ sock puppetry in this comedic exploration of love and connection
Theatre-maker Jess Andrews is bringing her comedic autobiographical show I Met All My Friends on Dating Apps, to Bristol this July.
The show, which will be at the Alma Tavern Theatre, is an exploration of polyamory. It’s told through spoken word, projected data from dating apps and ‘questionable’ sock puppetry. Jess will be re-enacting disastrous dates, first kisses and unexpected intimacy, as she invites the audience to reconsider what love and connection can mean.
Through I Met All My Friends on Dating Apps, Jess is seeking to challenge what she calls an ‘over dramatic’ and ‘unrealistic’ portrayal of non-monogamy in the media.
“It was important to me to give an unexaggerated narrative of polyamory, so that non-monogamous folk see their experiences reflected and validated, and in turn might be inspired to share their own stories,” Jess explains.
“Common representations of polyamory tend to diminish the richness and nuance of the non-monogamous relationships that I see around me. While parts of the show will feel familiar to anyone who has been on a dating app, I hope that while monogamous audiences laugh with me, they also gain a different perspective on how we can experience love.”
