Shirley Knot – The Siren, will be coming to the Alma Tavern Theatre in Clifton this summer. Audiences can expect a one-woman musical comedy cabaret show shining a light on the issues of ageing.
Shirley Knot – AKA Debbie Bridge – is a New Yorker who finds herself “Washed Up” on the British coastline.
Based on the story of A Little Mermaid, Shirley, a ‘vivacious older siren’ refuses to be defined by age or circumstance.
She has hit breaking point, living in an underwater society that no longer sees her – and she is fed right up with towing the fishing line.
Shirley has now decided to come on land and tell her story.
The show is described as a celebration of resilience and empowerment. Told through music, comedy and poignant storytelling, Shirley refuses to be defined by her age or circumstance.
The show has been created by Debbie Bridge, an operatically trained singer who has worked internationally acting, in opera and stage work – which has included the West End, Royal Festival Hall and D’Oyly Carte.
The show has been produced by Bridge Tea House Pop Up Theatre – a professional theatre company set up by Debbie herself. The company aims to bring new works to the stage – or a fresh new way of staging classic works.
