A sparkling cast breathed fresh life into Cole Porter’s musical comedy High Society, at The Redgrave Theatre last night.
Lisa Babb’s radiant Tracy Lord, headed the cast opposite Dominic Ammerlaan’s smooth yet lovable Dexter Haven.
Imogen Chapman gave an outstanding performance as irritating younger sister Dinah Lord and Philip Joyner’s Uncle Willie perfectly captured the wicked drunken uncle who seems to be at everyone’s wedding.
In a successful BMT debut, Steve Minton nailed the part of Macaulay “Mike” Connor, whose journey from working class journalist to high society love interest runs alongside Tracy Lord’s own journey of self discovery – back to the man from whom she had previously divorced.
The high jinx American upper class comedy was backed by a large and enthusiastic ensemble, which moved through the show to Courtney Jackson’s 50’s Hollywood choreography.
This thoroughly enjoyable production is genuinely one of the best pieces of theatre I’ve seen in Bristol for weeks. Funny, entertaining and with great performances.
High Society is at The Redgrave Theatre until Saturday 05 May 2018
