New Film Adaptation of The Secret Garden Starring Colin Firth and Julie Walters
New Secret Garden Movie: A new film adaptation of Frances Hodgson Burnett’s The Secret Garden, is to begin filming in the UK this month, with cast including Colin Firth and Julie Walters.
It’s been created by Studiocanal and Heyday, the team behind the hugely successful Paddington 1 and 2 and directed by Marc Munden.
The story, set in England, follows the adventure of Mary Lennox, a difficult ten year old whose parents die in India. She is sent back to live with her reclusive uncle in England on his country estate in the middle of nowhere. As well as discovering a secret garden, she begins to learn of the secrets hidden by the family.
Screen writer Jack Thorne, has transported the setting in time, moving it from the eve of Partition in India and into the aftermath of WWII in Britain.
Marc Munden says: “This is a fantastical reimagining of The Secret Garden: I can’t wait to explore it. It’s an opportunity to immerse ourselves in an uncanny and wondrous world, which will play to the imaginations of adults and children alike.”
