Phil Okwedy: The Gods Are All Here at Tobacco Factory Theatres
Phil Okwedy: The Gods Are All Here comes to Tobacco Factory Theatres this October.
It was a series of letters from his father in Nigeria to his mother in Wales, that sparked the idea behind Phil Okwedy’s show – The Gods Are All Here.
The one-man performance has been described as ‘moving, funny and warm-hearted’. It weaves together storytelling with myth, song and folktales from the African diaspora, integrating themes of equality freedom, racism and family.
Phil grew up in foster care without his parents. The title is inspired by the time of life when children view their parents as gods. As Phil never actually lived with his parents he explores his family origins as if they were the gods he imagined they were.
Phil Okwedy: The Gods Are All Here will be at Tobacco Factory Theatres on Monday 23 October 2023
