Richard II Bristol Shakespeare Festival

A bold new production of Richard II by Quandary Collective, is touring the UK, with a stop-off in Bristol as part of the Shakespeare Festival.

Billed as a fusion of Mad Max: Fury Road, an episode of Game of Thrones and an environmental movement, this very Bristol sounding show blends Shakespeare’s play with ‘visceral movement and live electronic music’.

If you think it can’t get better than that, the production will be taking place in the atmospheric venue of Eastville Park’s former outdoor swimming pool.

Set in a kingdom in which a woman is presenting as a man to hold onto power, this contemporary adaptation looks at what it means to lead a country, the effects of toxic masculinity, gender and power, and all whilst set in a post-pandemic feudal law system. Very 2021.

Quandary Collective’s production of Richard II, will be in Bristol 18-21 August 2021, with booking open now.

The production contains bloody violence and nudity. Suitable for audiences age 16 years upwards. Runs at 2 hours 30 minutes with a 15 minute interval.
