Root Festival 2024 Returns to Bristol

The popular event brings outdoor children’s theatre back for a fourth year

This summer sees the return of ROOT Festival, an annual event bringing ‘rambunctious’ and ‘one-of-a-kind’ outdoor theatre to Bristol children.

The event has been running every year since 2021, choosing a different outdoor location each time. The programme of locally made theatre features a show a month in June, July and August.

The festival has been created by Bristol theatre maker Paul Lawless, the co-artistic director of Brave Bold Drama.

This year’s event will be taking place at Boiling Wells Amphitheatre, a sister location to St Werburgh’s City Farm.

If Boiling Wells is new to you, it’s less than 5 minutes walk from the main St Werburgh’s City Farm site. It’s a 2.5 acre woodland, forest and conservation site, making it the perfect location for a one-stop day out this summer.

The Brave Bold Drama team say they are ‘very excited’ to be collaborating with the farm again after their highly successful Christmas show Yule Be Merry. Early booking is recommended as these shows will sell out.
