Original lighting is a real joy in this vintage 90s cinema experience

When the Showcase Avonmeads in Bristol opened in 1994, it heralded a whole new experience of movie going in the city.

So beloved is the cinema with its vintage 90’s experience, that when the cinema was refurbished from 2023, there was a campaign to ensure it remained faithful to the original design.

While the cinema foyer retained its design and feel, Bristol was forced to say farewell to the carpet.

Super-fan account Showcase Avonmemes, a long running fan account of the venue was presented with a framed piece of the ‘iconic carpet’.

The original neon light still remains in place and was working in all its glory when we went to see 28 Years Later this summer.

The revamped screens and seating and the loss of Cabot Circus’ Cinema De Lux, make Showcase Avonmeads currently one of the best cinema-going experiences in Bristol.
