Single Use Plastic Comedy Comes To Bristol

The theatre company’s hit debut show comes to Clifton next month

Orange Tree Theatre brings its comic play about climate change and single use plastic to the Alma Tavern Theatre in Bristol this October.

Single Use Plastic had a sell-out run in Edinburgh last year. It’s now out its first UK tour, playing for one night at the Clifton theatre.

It’s the first full-length one-woman show by writer and performer Verity Mullan, directed by Emma Beth Jones.

Mullan brings her sharp observations knitted into a comic story aimed at everyone who has ever tried to save the planet – and ended up destroying themselves instead.

When a mysterious box arrives on Ella’s doorstep, it distracts her from the problems in her life she is unable to confront. But, it’s not long until she has a whole host of new ones. As she throws herself into an issue she can solve – recycling – everything else quickly turns into chaos.

Verity Mullan delves into that sense of guilt we all get by throwing away a single-use piece of plastic. It explores our good intentions, plastic recycling, lazy habits, bad dates and romantic disappointment alongside climate change.

“I used a Keep Cup and it stank. I used a string shopper and the grapes fell through the holes. Wooden toothbrush and it gave me splinters … we will be dead, buried in the ground, and our mayonnaise bottle will be bobbing out to the Bahamas.”
