Cheering immersive light installation brightens up dreary winter weather

Immersive sound and light experience – Beneath The Waves – is taking place at SS Great Britain this Christmas.

The installation is by Squidsoup, features colouring changing suspended light orbs against a soundscape.

It’s taking place in the Dry Dock of SS Great Britain at the bow of the ship. Ordinarily the Dry Dock and hull is impressive enough on its own. But with Christmas around the corner and dreary winter weather, it’s a welcome sensory experience.

Across the festive season, there are other events taking place. There’s Storytime With Old Father Christmas and Festive Music In The Dry Dock. These take place on specific times and dates.

Beneath The Waves is permanently in place until the 04 January.

If you aren’t limited to the weekend, the quieter weekday mornings during term time is the perfect time to visit.

Beneath The Waves runs at SS Great Britain from 27 November 2025 – 04 January 2026
