The Mount Without – The Atmospheric Bristol Arts Venue

Have you seen one of Bristol’s most atmospheric arts venues yet?

St Michael on the Mount Without at the bottom of St Michael’s Hill in Bristol has been the location of a church since 1147. The current building features a tower constructed in the 15th century and the main body of the church dates to 1777.

It remained a church until 1999 when falling attendance forced it into closure. There it sat falling into disrepair, not helped by arson in 2016 which caused the loss of the roof and internal damage.

Eventually, the building found itself in the hands of Norman Routledge in 2019 after the Diocese put the the put the freehold up for sale. Transformed into an arts space by 2022, the new The Mount Without immediately put itself on the Bristol Culture Map as one of the most interesting and atmospheric venues in the city.

Check out the photographs below which shows the interior set for shipwrecks and Dreams Theatre Company’s October 2026 production of Dracula – as well as photographs around the exterior of the building.
