Welsh National Opera Back at Bristol Hippodrome
Bristol Theatre News:
It’s just over a month until the Welsh National Opera are back in Bristol. This time, they will be bringing two revivals, Verdi’s tragic La Traviata from 2009 and Rossini’s flamboyant La Cenerentola from 2007.
WNO’s Music Director Tomáš Hanus will be conducting, saying: “I am delighted that we can present our audience with the jewels of Italian repertoire, Rossini’s La Cenerentola and Verdi’s La traviata.
“These two will be a celebration of Italian opera that will delight, and move our audience to laughter and tears in turn. The artistic potential of WNO is so great that I feel it is vital to develop its international reputation. In today’s world, it is not only possible, but necessary to attract international attention to what we do, which is important not only for WNO itself, but also for Cardiff and for Wales.”
And if that’s not enough, newly commissioned musical hall opera Rhondda Rips It Up! will be taking place up the motorway at the Wyvern Theatre in Swindon.
The all-female production about pioneering suffragette and entrepreneur Lady Rhondda, will be playing on Tuesday 23 October 2018.
If you fancy making a day of it, the WNO Orchestra will be performing a family friendly Halloween Family Concert at St David’s Hall in Cardiff.
The event will take place on Sunday 28 October at 3pm and feature a programme of popular pieces from the world of opera, film and TV. There will also be activities taking place in the main foyer.
The Bristol programme will be at The Bristol Hippodrome:
La Traviata, October 25 & 27, 7.15pm
La Cenerentola, October 27, 7.15pm
La Traviata, October 25, 7.15pm
